Under strong pressure from former President Bill Clinton's advisers, CBS's ''60 Minutes'' has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on Sunday nght's program by former FBI director Louis Freeh, the WASHINGTON POST reports.
In the statement, Samuel ``Sandy'' Berger, Clinton's national security adviser, challenges Freeh's assertion that Clinton failed to press Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in that country, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year _ six years after the 1998 meeting.
Berger, who was at the meeting, said: ``The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.''
Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he told CBS's Mike Wallace that he had supportive accounts from five other former officials at the meeting, including those briefed about a private conversation between Clinton and Abdullah.
``The fair journalistic question is why they didn't call and get comments for their story from people who were in the room, such as Sandy Berger, and why they took until Friday afternoon to get that done,'' said Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer, who tried to persuade ''60 Minutes'' producer Jeff Fager to allow him or another Clinton spokesman to appear on Sunday night's segment.
Carson, who called the Freeh book ``a total work of fiction.''

His book comes out on Tuesday??? Why didn't he report the atrocities going on when Vincent Foster was murdered back in the 90's???? Why did Freeh wait this long to write a "tell all" book??
Sandy Berglar is the perfect man to defend Clinton. "I uh, got sloppy and put some memos of the FBI director in my socks..."
"Why didn't he report the atrocities going on when Vincent Foster was murdered back in the 90's????"
I noticed that Hannity and Savage both bashed Louis Freeh. Very unusual. Hannity said, "Don't waste your money on his book." Savage said that after reading parts of the book, he refused to interview Freeh.
Like I've always said, Freeh bounces babies on his shark skin suit. Sure, we can use this book to validate our stand on Clinton. But I have no sympathy for Mr. Shark skin Suit. You're right. He'll never tell us where [or why] the bodies were buried.
I need to clarify, I don't know if Foster shot himself. All I know is he didn't shoot himself in that park, and the investigations that followed were shams.
Please forgive a triple post response. It's really a compliment in a way. And what about Jerry Luther Parks, who predicted his own murder when he heard that Foster was found in a park. And guess where Parks was murdered a few weeks later? In a PARK. Foster-Park. Parks-Park. Coded message? Sure seems like one to me.
I do not believe there was any powder residue on his hand.
He did not commit suicide. Unless being a Hillary friend redines the word.

This has always been the Clinton strategy: recruit a REAL criminal to indict a hypothetical criminal ( especially one who is currently spreading bad PR for Clinton). It has either been proven "to work" for them, or at least be "worth the risk". So people like Berger are NOT told to go hide somewhere after his recent troubles with the law: instead he crawls conspicuously OUT of the woodwork into the bright light of day, thereby SANITIZING himself in his criticism of the "REAL" criminal, Freeh. Somehow ALL of Clinton's minions are eventually sanitized this way----they just keep coming back for a new appearance and a new opportunity to be "rehabilitated". While I am very ambivalent about Freeh and what looks like his attempt to pass the buck, I am sure I am right about this Clinton strategy.
Well, Sandy ought to know. He probably has a piece of paper stuffed down his underwear saying just that.
I am reading Freeh's book now. It is very informative. He says they were trying to interview the bombers in Saudi that killed the 19 Air Force personell. While the FBI is trying to solve the case, the Clinton White House is having meetings to "manage" the case. This drags it on for years!
To them it's ONLY about Spin. And it still is today.......
He got probation! But he has already been picked up for violating terms (speeding or something). That's the rumour.
