Thanks for the update. Glad all is well.

My hubby works at a building that had it's interior on film....found in a cave in Afghanistan. The cafeteria, the conference rooms, even down to the color of the security tags the employees wear.

Life goes on and this stress is something we learn to accept as we go about our everyday lives.

Thanks, Owl. It's been some 30 years since I lived in the Philly area, and the station's seem to have been re-named since then. The old east-bound train went down Market Street, while the old north-south line went up and down Broad Street. Where is the current "Market East" station? Sorry for my ignorance of the "new" station names.

The subway lines are still the same as you remember them.

Market East is connected to the 11th Street stop of the Market Street line.  It's underneath The Gallery, just west of the old Litt Brothers.

Market East really serves the regional rail, the trains that go out to the suburbs.  There's also Suburban Station (@16th and Market) and 30th Street, attached to the Amtrak Station, that service these regoinal rail lines.

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,

 it was probably sarcasm)

"If they were driving from Norman, OK to NYC... Philly would be a good spot to check their wiring."

If they spent much time on the PA turnpike they might not have enough money left to get to NY City.

My kid's in Philly, hope all is well.

You used the term "cells went down" - did you mean they were just overloaded so you couldn't get through?

cells went down at the Sooners game right after the bomb went off. At the game, it had nothing to do with panic...interesting. It was reported that cell phone communication at the Sooners game didn't work until after the 3rd quarter and they all came back up at the same time. It had nothing to do with overloaded squat...it appears the cells were taken down.

Obliously, you're not from Philly. It's "cheesesteaks" , not "cheese and steak".
But we forgive you.Your intent was good.

I'm not from Philly but one my life's goals is to get there just to have a cheesesteak.

EBH, my husband has been in this industry for 22 years - he said there may have been an overload problem, since that happens all the time, but there is no way that the Federal Government stopped all cell calls in that area. And there is no way the carriers would have agreed to turn off power to their sites - that would be a huge amount of money they would lose.

The window for working on a system is set for the lowest usage times possible to keep from losing money - and that is from 11pm to 5am.

During the hurricane (Rita) evacuation, our cell phones wouldn't work either - because of the overload on the system. Occasionally we could get a call through, but not often. The systems are set for usual and customary usage, and a packed stadium would exceed that.

I'm certainly not trying to argue with either of you - I'm only commenting based on expert information from my husband, who has worked in the Cell industry for many years - ikka, you mentioned the cells possibly being switched over for municipal use - this is what my husband said:

Nextel is the only system that inferes with public systems - they are currently at 800 Mhz, all other systems are at 1900 - so a widescale switch would not have been necessary.
