Headline only.  This happened last year too, my guess is it's probably nothing, but this is how big storries start out as well as hoaxes.

I'll monitor and update.

Sidebar Moderator, I'll certainly understand if you yank this ("Oh good, 'cause I was real concerned over that.")  If this turns out to be nothing, I'll contact you if it's still up.  Thx.

Owl -- any updates?

My husband is through there every morning, and hasn't gotten to work yet. He's also unreachable by cell.

Sounds like he's sitting on a train just waiting.  I guess he could get off at Temple, walk across campus and take the Broad Street line into town, but if you can't raise him on his cell, he may be in the tunnel already.

Suspicous man with a backpack taken into custody.

This may just be a traffic thing.  Sorry about jumping the gun.  If this is something bigger, I'll post something new with better info.  Not breaking news, but I'll continue to monitor for Philadelphia FReepers.

If he's coming in from the west, he can get to Suburban Staion, which is good.  But if it's from the East, he's gotta get off at Fern Rock and take the Broad Street line.

Thanks PA Mom!  I'm SO glad I got an early start today.  I was in Market East before this occurred.  So many people pass through there on their way in and out, it's just a commuter nightmare.  I hope they throw this guy in the slam just for all the headaches he's caused.

Trib, heads up if you hadn't heard. Here comes the top of the hour update...

Usually he gets off the train at Market East (unless he's in the mood to stretch his legs, in which case he gets off at SUburban). Hope he was feeling antsy enough or ornery enough for a walk this morning!

His Nextel is not working though -- both DirectConnect and regular calling indicate he's not available. (But it doens't roll right into voicemail, as it usually does. This concerns me.)

If they were driving from Norman, OK to NYC... Philly would be a good spot to check their wiring.

Or Philly was a fall-back target.

After all the reporting about the NYC threat yesterday, maybe they decided to drive only as far as Philly.

KD just had a live feed from a reporter at KYW...Market Station closed...suspisiously package, man acting 'suspisiously, and taken into custody.' Reporter said bomb squad on scene...nothing will move til package, area is cleared.

Hope this is nothing, but prayers for those stuck in the area. Be safe and alert all.

You've got to figure there are lots of calls being made because of the emergency. The fact that it doesn't roll over into voicemail, is probably a sign that the system just isn't working because of the volume of calls.

This is what I'm getting off the radio:  (It's the top story, but they're not breaking format, still doing traffic and weather on the twos)

Bomb Squad Brought In, suspicious package being examined.

Man Taken into custody

SEPTA's Richard Maloney says an individual got on the R6 at Conshohocken carrying a large backpack.  Police with bomb dogs "scored a hit" at Market East.  It was the nozzel to a propane tank.

>>>  Thanks for the traffic nightmare you F-in' jerk.
