We need a constitutional amendment that only someone from an Ivy league (well maybe Stanford is ok) law school is illegible for the Supreme Court. Perhaps my beeber is stuned, but I find that hard to read.

But that is the argument from some quarters of Conservatism, she didnt come from a first tier law school so therefore she isnt qualified, according to Coulter and many here.

Years from now we will look back and we will know which commentators were right on Miers. Well,,we have two choices - either we trust the president's judgment or we don't. Like it's been said on other threads, and it made it clear for me after my initial doubt... I voted last November. And if Bush picks Miers, then it's Miers.

I guess the Dolt in Chief should have consulted with them.I find that offensive.
I don't know anything about Miers other than what I have read since her nomination.
I am extremely disappointed that Bush chose this woman.
However, President Bush has proven time and time again that he is NOT a dolt. Far from it.

I'm not happy with Miers, but Krauthammer here ignores that Miers has been dealing with the election of judges for both the Circuit and Supreme Court for quite some time... I'm quite sure she has been involved, deeply involved, in debates about constitutional interpretation... just not public ones.

If Harriet Miers were not a crony of the president of the United States, her nomination to the Supreme Court would be a joke, as it would have occurred to no one else to nominate her. True... and when/if she turns out to be exactly what we were hoping for, everyone will know that it was ONLY because of Bush that this happened.
(And if she turns into Souter in a skirt we'll know that too).
This is for all the chips on the table. The man doesn't play small.

Krauthammer has overcome a paralyzing injury to live a rich and fruitful life, both personally and professionally. He is a brilliant man, thoughtful and eloquent. He has been one of the most supportive and forceful defenders of this president on the WOT and other important issues.
So disagree with him if you want, but lay off the baseless attacks on his character and qualifications. They cheapen you and this forum.
To: cgk
The most reserved calculated and spot on conservative rebuke to date. Not much heat but a large dose of common sense.
To: AbeKrieger
I voted last November, too. That doesn't mean that my civic obligations ended then.

Fred Barnes mentioned the possibility of Miers being nominated back in January. She was also mentioned all summer. I never noticed, but it's there.

Years from now we will look back and we will know which commentators were right on Miers. Right now, everyone is just taking their best guess. Bush isn't guessing. He knows exactly what he's got in his hand. He's either knowingly betraying us or he's making a stunningly brilliant call. We'll know soon enough.

Dang me, I forgot to add "moonbat" and "Ivy League" to my list of standard Bushbot insults! But heck, I didn't forget the original line about "meds".
