Mark Levin and Dick Morris get into it
WABC radio | October 5, 2005 | Self

Posted on 10/05/2005 12:57:14 PM PDT by jmaroneps37

Mark Levin and Dick morris have just debated the nomination on Sean hannity's show. After listening to Levin, I am more convinced that Miers is the one I want. Levin talks a good game about not wanting judges who will re write the Constitution. We we have a person that all indications show will be an orginalist. I think Levin is more interested in a fight than actually getting the judical "No" machine we need in the Suprems Court. I think Miers will be a solid money in the bank conservative vote. Since Supreme Court Judges only get one vote, how much more could Miers do? Maybe smack Ginsberg in the chops?

We have only Levin's word that Kennedy is a liar.

Somehow I'm not going to take Levin's word on that.

This is a tiny flaw. I agree though. Levin is more effective when listens to the other side and has conversation as Rush does.

I know the great one has it him, it is just a matter of wanting to take it to the next level.

If the following statment by Frum is correct, then she is, in addition to being spectacularly underqualified, a little nutty: "She once told me that the president was the most brilliant man she had ever met."

I have heard almost NO one give any support to Miers.

Dobson

Sekulow

Morris

Bevan (RealClearPolitics)

Thomas Lifson (American Thinker)

Hewitt

Sen. Orin Hatch

Sen John Coryn

...and loads of people who have worked closely with her including the President of the United States.

Sorry, A rhetorical question does not buttress the original point that was being made.

If she is an originalist I would like someone to calmly provide evidence.

Miss marple (whom I also like) took a cheap shot at mark.

We are stuck on stupid, since levin and snow will come talk to us little people, when others like sean and rush wont.

Jmar,

Strange times yes, but in the grand scheme of things who cares what either of them think.

It is about what GWB thinks of her.

I finally get this nomination. When President Bush needs to make a decision that has a succession/legacy component, he has defaulted to this model of finding the best right under his nose. He did this with V.P.Cheney, and G_d forbid, that his successor would need take the reigns, we would be in good shape.

I feel he is taking the long term approach again with Ms. Meirs, and no one sees it.

On changing the Culture.

As a part time business/finance student it finally hit me. The Presidents initiative to change the culture in Washington is from business textbooks, the Freeze-Unfreezing of a culture. While in many respects the Andrea Mitchell's of the world have not changed, as well as the dominate media culture, it is part of a bigger scheme.

I think the President by refusing to give the Left a fight is driving them nuts, It is eating them up inside. And as they implode, they continue to make themselves look like asses to the American people.

To rephrase a line from the B-52's, The President is living in his own private shadenfraud, and Kennedy and Shummer do not even know he is snickering at them and enjoying every minute of it......

Frum was asked to leave his post as speech writer. His wife bragged that she was the one who put in the words Axis of Evil.

He is the PResident's speech writer and he discusses his work with his wife?

He's qualified to judge the President?

I don't believe for one minute that Reid, Schumer, and the rest of the die-hard libs "support" or recommend her for SCOTUS. They are practicing smart politics. They know they have no ammunition to use against her - they would really look more stupid than usual to argue against someone with no true public positions. So they did the next best thing -- make it look like she is their choice - get the Republicans fighting against each other. When your enemy is destroying themselves, just sit back and watch - don't even fire a shot!!
The proof of this nomination will be a year away when her decisions come down...Sure, you can point to Souter as a poor example of a Republican appointment gone wrong - but GW is more clever than GH. GH thought he could appease the Dems...work with them..."read my lips" - then give in to them....GW WON'T - no matter what some conservatives are thinking now. He knows this candidate - has worked closely with her 10 years - knows how she thinks!!
GH didn't know how to spell Souter (did Qualye?) before he nominated him as a pay-back to Sununu. That is how we got stuck with that Turkey!
This could be a brilliant nomination, if only the Reps wouldn't shoot themselves in the mouth over it !!
And suppose for a moment it isn't - and she is another SDO...well that is pathetic for sure, but what good does it do the Reps heading into 2006 and 2008 to have this division? It only helps the Dems...
So, Buck Up, settle down - get her on the court - trust GW folks, he's the best we have .. and be glad this was his nomination to make and not Kerry's - or Clinton's after 2008, because this infighting will surely help her waltz into the WH and for sure we don't need another Ginsberg!

We have this neat process to handle things like this. The President appoints this person. Then this person gets to be interviewed by a committee of Senators. Those interviews are public events. You can watch and listen to every word they say and she says.

Why are so many people who want a SC Justice that will uphold the Constitution so unwilling to allow the Constitution to function?

When the interviews are over and you know something about this person that is not second, third or fourth hand information you can bitch and moan all you want. At least then you will have some foundation to stand on.

She's been his personal lawyer, they know each other socially, besides the fact that she works for him.

I am getting real. And I've read what she's written - its ZILCH.

She is undoubtedly the least qualified SCOTUUS appointee since Truman appointed his cronies.

Also, her nomination is a slap in the face to the REALLY qualified people like Owens, JRB, Luttig, Miranda, etc, etc. And then Cheney has to get on TV and say "wait ten years". TEN YEARS?!? Dammit, we don't have ten years.

Furthermore Dubya has put himself in a box - if Ginsberg or say Stevens kicks off Bush will now HAVE to appoint someone like them "to keep the balance" or the Dems will filibuster. He has just set the precedent - and it sucks, Big Time.

A number of conservatives are coming out in support of the Miers nomination:

Senator John Cornyn

There are others --- came up with these after a quick search.

I actually don't. I've been trying to google it but nothing comes up. I saw his remarks on CSPAN. I'm pretty sure it was the day of the announcement, Specter and some other Senators took turns giving statements at a podium and CSPAN covered it. Schumer was giddy. He really was beside himself. It was like he just sold a used car for $1500 that he was only hoping to get $750 for. And what really stuck was how he said this pick showed that GW would NOT pander to the extreme right, that it was a repudiation. He said it was a very hopeful day. I'll try to find it.

I wasn't attempting to buttress the original point and my question was NOT rhetorical, I am curious as to whether you have any evidence to indicate she is not an originalist but rather a believer in a living breathing constitution.

Actually, he doesn't.

Her service in Washington under a Republican administration will most likely innoculate her against such a drift.
