"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story." It's called accountability. CBS and the rest of the alphabet networks squandered the advantages they had. What a bummer, journalists are being held accountable for their lying now.

"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad." It dawned on the Clintonites back in late 1997, which is why they had WP/LAT sue FR...
Welcome to the party, Mary! ;-)

Your photo of Dan Rather in Hussein's "spidey-hole" is an apt metaphor for Gunga-Dan. When one ponders how Rather ran CBS news, not unlike Hussein ran Iraq, the metaphor is complete.
We have our own "ego-centric, maniacal dictators" in the USA, they are known as Anchor Men.

Gee, Mary, maybe if you had a brain you wouldn't have ran with a story so full of lies.

Just like a liberal to blame everyone else instead of taking personal responsiblity. She lied, got caught, but being caught in a lie isn't her fault, it is the "catcher"? Typical Clintonistic liberal.
Satan is the author of lies. Guess the MSM is his modern day vehicle for his lies. And he doesn't like to be caught. FR should take credit for the exposure of the MSM lies but not the blame of being caught. We are in a warfare folks. Keep up the heat on the enemy!

It just dawned on me that we're all just feeding her main neurosis and making her feel good. What higher calling is there for a liberal than to be a martyr for the cause? The left is basically predicated on a victim mentality so its perceived persecutions are the proof of their superiority. Holding her accountable is the ultimate evil of judgmentalism.

Mary, we're really sorry about all the bad things we said about that truly, sweet man, Dan Rather. After all, we knew that he was a kind, honest person. WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING--I MUST BE DRUNK!!!!!! HA HA HA HA HA ETC.

Outstanding!! We must re-label the MSM as the SAP! Are they all SAPs or what is the best term for members of the SAP? The SAPs are all whining about the rise of the web and bloggers, etc. as though their Golden Age when they controlled the information flow was the ideal. Now the likes of Mary Mapes and Dan Rather can no longer foist their frauds on the public so easily (though they can still make huge bucks and publish dishonest books, go on the SAP speakers' circuit, etc.). We have introduced some checks on the ability of SAPs to run wild, but they still control the main institutions of the SAP, universities and journalism schools, book publishers and 'prestigious' fellowships, etc. SAPs like Mary Mapes and Dan Rather have taken some blows to their credibility (which should be regarded as annihilated by now), but their allies from Marvin Kalb (leftist SAP at Harvard) to most SAP editors and book publishers are trying to rally to re-write history.
