Rep. Shelley Moore Capito said today she will not challenge Sen. Robert Byrd next year for a U.S. Senate seat, but instead will try to keep her high-profile position in the House of Representatives.

Well, darn.
First John Hoeven and now this. What a depressing week.
So Byrd will go unchallenged for all intents and purposes...
I fought the Klan and the Klan won.
So we win MN and the Ds get PENN so we stay the same
Is that old fart gonna DIE on the floor of the Senate?
(They seem to have no interest in sending any money to someone who is running anyway, like my friend who got 36% against Rockefeller in 2002, but never got any money from the RNSC since they figured why send money when it's guaranteed you won't win?)
Ever since 1913 with that stupid Amendment, the people in the states have lost control of who really represents their state in Washington.
What happened? Did she find a burning wooden cross in her front yard?
Not necessarily. Hiram Lewis was almost elected state AG last year, so he's not a token candidate.
ALRIGHT HIRAM....LET'S DO IT!!!!
Hey, if he is serious, even this Texan will contribute to his campaign...
I contributed to John Thune's in South Dakota...and I will contribute in any state that will put up an honest to goodness conservative...even up against a Republican...like Lincoln Chafee, Snowe, Collins, Voinivich, DeWine, etc...
Pro-life,Pro-gun rights, you name it.Heck,he's an Iraq War vet and his NG unit was just called up again to go to the Gulf States hit by Katrina and Rita.
For some reason, he doesn't seem to get much support around here.I've posted stuff about him before, and the response has been a lot of "he can't win" negativity. I like him, I think he's for real.
I don't think Grand Kleagle would lose even with Capito. My guess is that Capito's House seat and this race would be lost. It's not like Byrd has another 20 yrs in the Senate, she will get to run soon enough.
I agree with you about Lewis. Last year, he came out of nowhere to almost unseat the incumbent state AG. He has a shot at the aging Byrd, though he starts out the underdog.
"Is that old fart gonna DIE on the floor of the Senate?"
If he does, WV's Democrat governor appoints the replacement.
I am sensing some changes around here...I think you are going to start seeing more freepers in the mood to fight for candidates all over the US that might help the "cause"..
I just got off of a thread that was about the House GOP dropping their demand for off-shore drilling...a demand that SHOULD have been easy to get, considering the cost of gas...but NO, they backed off again.
THAT is why I think if we can find a good conservative candidate, no matter what the state....we should do whatever we can to help...
I sent Hiram's campaign 20 bucks back in April right after he first announced.I live in SW Pa. so I can't vote for him,but I sure as heck can support him!
I agree.
Shelly will have another chance. It's a matter of biding her time.
