LOL. He was on Fox this morning at his best (glum and dour-looking) saying how disappointed he was in this selection.
Of course he was disappointed, since this nominee is responsible for helping President Bush handpick the previous nominee, and has a proven track record of loyalty and integrity and making informed decisions for her boss, the President.
I believe his argument was that he sends a perception of weakness. Appeasment toward the demands of the Democrats. Which is true. That is the perception with this pick. Conservatives are unhappy, Democrats are smiling. That is the image and that is the reality. And Chuck S.'s speech that the president did not listen to his 'extremist' base in making the selection asserts that image.
Is the President a weak man? No, and neither did he advance that argument.
What is Frist stating?
I bet you are right about Delay. LOL This sure swept his name wide off the pages.
She looked like she'd been cryin, fer God's sake. :)
Using your measuring stick, Paul would have been shut out of the early Christian church. right?
Thanks for the heads up----I am a hugh Cheney fan, so I will listen for any reason he is on....
BTW, Bush picked Cheney they same way he picked Miers...if that is any indication...
Cheney was in charge of looking for a VP, and Miers was in charge of vetting SCOTUS and other judicial nominees.
He started out talking about what a good candidate Miers is...but the good part is, he was pointing up the part of Roberts nomination that the dems might not like...
Like how "we found out that nominees can get elected even if all of the paper trail isn't delivered by the White House", and how even nominees that have been labelled extremist by some special interest groups, can still be confirmed...
You know...pointing out things that they can't use against her, because they didn't against Roberts....LOL
Yes, if you decided to do the Niagra Falls thing- I would conclude it was a stupid thing to have done. That is because there was PRIOR EVIDENCE of the risk.
With Miers, don't have that- for good or ill. My question was rhetorical- hoping in vain to jar some thinking here. IOW's what if we get the RESULT we want? What if she turns out to be Scalia or Thomas-like?
Bottom line I often ask myself- do I want to be RIGHT or happy?
his (Reid's) attitude will change when liberal groups give him his marching orders.
BTW, Naomi Wolfe (Algore's personal clothes' adviser) just said on Fox News that the "right-wing" doesn't want to overturn Roe vs. Wade, they just want to put back the "humiliation factor".
Prior Evidence: David Souter. Anthony Kennedy. Warren Burger.
I would love nothing more than to get another Scalia, and have all of this gnashing of teeth turn out to be all for naught. But the issue to many is that there were others out there who clearly were Scalia-ish, so why take the risk if it's unnecessary?
Perhaps there is a reason for the choice that none of us are privy to. Perhaps they know that there will be other opportunities down the road (Ginsberg? Stevens? Both?) and are confident enough in this pick to soften the blow for later on. I don't know. But given what we do know, which is very little, there is certainly on the surface more risk here than there needs to be.
Understood.
Or maybe it's time to try and stand up for conservatism, even if it means telling the President he screwed up and broke his promise.
Guess FNC has Kristol on for the fair and UNBALANCED segment of viewers.
What's worse? People who have the stones to call the President on it when he blows an amazing chance to save the SCOTUS or to suck up to him no matter how badly he blows that chance?
Savage, while letting out the occasional bit of truth with stark clarity, is, for the most part, a sensationalistic smacktard. Seems to me like he wants to be the Howard "Shock Jock" Stern of Right wing radio.
Yeah really. I think when its detailed just how much time and effort shes put into her church life, in a conservative church no less, the past decade+, the democrat support will evaporate. I am looking for this to be a nasty anti-Christian confirmation process. I am very interested in hearing all that Jay Sekulo has to say. I believe him to be a perfect barometer of the real Christian conservative majority in this country. He is strongly supporting her and her character, and I dont know how NOT to give that a lot of weight. Hes smart, and very conservative.
Heh heh heh. Thats funny. :)
This is all I have to say on this today. Miers has been instrumental in picking ALL of Bush's judicial picks the past five years. She helped pick Luddig and Pryor and Brown and Olsen and other VERY conservative judges. So why isn't she good enough to be one of them when she helped picking them? She said a couple months ago that she didn't think Roberts was conservative enough, and given how Roberts performed that means she's right of Roberts which is VERY conservative. So many dedicated conservatives have come out backing her, and not one has come out against her. That speaks for itself. I just don't understand how so many knee jerkers here who wish the pick had been Pryor or Luddig or Owens, think one of the people who was instrumental in picking those hard line conservatives, isn't good enough to be a SCJ herself. That defies all logic. I think there will be quite a number of nay saying "conservatives" who have gone out of their way to want to crucify this woman and Bush without the benefit of facts will be eating crow in a few months when they realize that Miers, and Roberts for that matter, have brought hte SCOTUS to the right, where it belongs, enforcing the Constitution, not redefining it as they wish it read.
Allen, your comments are the same ones I've been making on other threads.
The issue that got to me was seeing the Malkins and Levins of the world leading the angry mob to the edge of the cliff.
Malkin went as far as to use incorrect information on her blog, which makes her as guilty as any liberal MSM for not bothering to verify before repeating bad information. This is something we complain about the lefties doing, but when it is one of our own, it's worse.
