Franck & Miers [Mark R. Levin 10/03 09:50 AM] I understand Matt's point, as he's written so eloquently about it many times. But, in truth, we already know what's going on here, and that the president, despite a magnificent farm team from which to choose a solid nominee, chose otherwise. Miers was chosen for two reasons and two reasons alone: 1. she's a she; 2. she's a long-time Bush friend. Otherwise, there's nothing to distinguish her from thousands of other lawyers. And holding a high post in the Bar, which the White House seems to be touting, is like holding a high position in any professional organization. But it reveals nothing about the nominee's judicial philosophy. There are many top officials in the Bar who I wouldn't trust to handle a fender-bender. Also, early in his term, the president singled out the Bar for its partisan agenda and excluded it from a formal role in judicial selection. The president said he would pick a candidate like Antonin Scalia or Clarence Thomas, and he did not. We all know of outstanding individuals who fit that bill, and they were once again passed over. Even David Souter had a more compelling resume that Miers.

Too bad Rodney Dangerfield isn't alive. He'd have been a great pick as well.
Keep dreaming.
It was time for 43 to put a staunch conservative up there and he blew the call.
So is the Reverend Al Sharpton.......
I agree with you, Pabianice. I think Bush is just being nice to her, knowing darn well there is going to be a dickens of a time getting her confirmed.
Exodus International affiliation? Ha. The libs are going to go absolutely ballistic over that one.
She won't be confirmed. Betcha.
She was like that with Roberts also
And Levin said what of Roberts?
It will be interesting to see what kind of rating the American Bar Association assigns to Ms Miers.
"I don't get no respect!"
I'm afraid Miers will be easily confirmed. After the required Dimocrat/liberal blustering and document-demanding, of course.
I don't recall that...maybe you're thinking of Ann Coulter?
Roberts was a bit of an unknown quantity as well.
Only time will tell on him, and that was a risk we shouldn't have taken.
Alan Simpson (former Sen from WY) was just on FNC. He just said that Schumer was parsing his words on Miers so closely it was like he was stepping from 1 dynamite cap to another. LOL!
He also said that Chuckie remarked about the far right, but he should also talk about the far left and that Chuck was no moderate and wouldn't like anyone that the President picked.
Early in this process, many Senators were suggesting Bush nominate someone outside of the Judiciary, she certainly fits that bill. I am willing to trust that the President knows this woman and that she is a conservative.
Something else to consider, Roberts has said repeatedly that he will insist cases accepted by the court will have a clear constitutional issue to consider, otherwise they won't take the case.
You chicken littles are the same ones I had to calm down on election day after the bogus "exit polling" said Bush would lose.
But she stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. /s
After 15 minutes reading comments here, Ive heard nothing substantive to indicate that shes a bad pick. Just a lot of speculation and hysteria built on hysteria. Not much thought on these threads this morning.
To wait all these years to have the opportunity to stem the tide of socialism and liberalism and he picks "a hunch" on his feelings?
The fact that Harry Reid finds her acceptable should have us running for the exits.
Wish we had a conservative majority in the Senate to vote her down.
No he didn't Karl. He knew the USSC would approve it. But since he campaigned on a variant of it, he couldn't not sign it. And, if you want to get right down to it, it CFR has done more damage to the Dems than anything I could imagine.
Just a few thoughts:
1. I have no idea who Harriet Miers is.
2. Bush promised us judges in the mold of Scalia and Thomas.
3. Clarence Thomas was well worth the pain of getting him confirmed.
4. Edith Jones is also from Texas.
WTF?
