It will be the next law Big Brother forces on us. No one allowed within 50 feet of water without a life vest. Thats includes the boat rides at Disney World.

You may be right...I'm not certain how many would have been saved even with vests if they were caught in the glass enclosed section.

A smaller boat packed with seniors. The one problem I can see as a Monday morning quarterback is that the only crew was a 70ish captain.

There should be at least one younger crew to assist passengers in any number of ways.

"Once again, it's BUSH'S FAULT!"

Already said more than once on this thread and every other thread on FR. Boring, boring, boring.

"If you don't know the area you shouldn't comment as if you do."

All I could think of yesterday while watching FNC coverage and hearing them say, "This is an area where we don't usually have reporters," was GOOD! Let's keep it that way! :) Although, I must say it was nice to see their video of the lake this morning - calm, misty, beautiful. I grew up about 2 miles from where the accident happened. Lake George is in my soul.

That first photo looks like it was taken from Usher Park with a telephoto lens - or was it taken from a boat?

"Used to be the "Queen of American Lakes" now it's just another "madam"."

It's still beautiful, though. I'm old enough to remember that Canada St. used to be lined with huge hundred-year old maples. We tapped 'em in kindergarten and carried the sap into the school to be boiled. When all was ready, our moms came in for a pancake with syrup breakfast. The year was 1957. You can't even see the lake from Canada St. anymore. Tourists seem to be more interested in tee shirts.

"My husband and I were doing a town-wide garage/collectibles show in Warrensburg, NY"

My daughter was there too for her second day of browsing. I'm enjoying the fact that we have a few freepers from the area on this thread, as it seems Ken Tingley is taking The Post-Star farther and farther left and I'm getting thoroughly fed up with that.

It's not my photo so I'm not sure. I just found it on google images.

I just love how clear the water is. It's too bad you can only swim for such a short season.

My dad was councilman in Lake George for over 30 years. His name is on the plaque at Usher Park. And McDonald Pier at Shepard Park is named for my uncle. I'm a west-sider. :)

Agreed. Perhaps someone could write a code that changes posts containing the words "Bush's fault" to "I need an original thought, please"...or..."Insert new punchline here"...or something similar. This tired verbal fad, like "Gag me with a spoon", will hopefully pass on soon.

People drowning isn't a joking matter to begin with, or so it seems to me. Gallows humor, I suppose.

"It's too bad you can only swim for such a short season."

True, but in a way, we in the North Country experience a joy in the change of seasons that a Southerner could never understand. I went swimming off a boat in Log Bay on July 2nd. The water was 76 degrees and simply heavenly. I remember I had swimming lessions in Shepard Park when I was little in June in 50 degree water. It was so cold!

FNC report now: 20 deceased. 7 still in hospital. Families coming in from Michigan. Pataki is involved. Sweeney is speaking.

More (Sweeney and NTSB): Too early to tell what happened. Boat will be brought up today and additional documentation will occur. Vessel will be towed. Fine tooth comb...Sweeney says there are different versions from survivors and spectators. NTSB will be looking at all factors concerning operator and operation of the boat. Nothing is off the table. PFD's for children up to the age of 12. No rules for mandatory life jackets over that age.

At least people seem to have gotten a little tired of "stuck on stupid." It was a good line worth noting when it happened, but after reading 2,000 times on FR I just wanted to bang my head on my desk.
