About 8,000 revelers gathered Saturday on the Boston Common to try to break the Guinness Book of World Records' listing for the largest display of lit jack-o'-lanterns. Among them was Thomas Brato, 33, who police said had a different kind of firework in mind.
Brato placed a couple of bags of powder and some wiring inside one of the carved-out gourds, police said. As he walked away into a crowd, he told a nearby firefighter to ''have fun in eternity," police said

Pipe Bomb Explodes In Neighborhood Park
A pipe bomb ripped through a trash an at a neighborhood park in south Mecklenburg County.
Officials said it happened at Six-Mile Creek Park. That's on Marvin Road between Wade Ardrey and Patterson roads.


Richmond, VA:
Bomb squad disables device at courthouse
A suspicious package that contained what authorities believe was a bomb was seen in the mail at the U.S. Courthouse yesterday and handled by the Richmond police bomb squad.
U.S. Postal Inspector D.E. Wood said the return address indicated the package came from a federal prison. "We believe it's an actual device," Wood said.
(...)Authorities said black powder found in the package will be analyzed to be sure that it is an explosive. Courthouse employees said they were told the package contained wires, a battery, a switch, a light bulb and nails.

Police: Bomb threat made on Old Main
10/24/05 - Penn State
Police are investigating a bomb threat received by a staff member at about 10 a.m. Friday at Old Main, Penn State University Police said.
University police Assistant Director Tyrone Parham said the building was evacuated while police officers used a bomb detection dog to search for explosives. Old Main remained open for business throughout the rest of the day.

Boy arrested after bomb threat
WATERTOWN (AP) - Police say a 15-year-old boy faces charges of making terrorist threats after a bomb threat forced Watertown authorities to check all 16 schools in the city on Friday.

Boy arrested in connection with school bomb threats
Police arrested a middle-school student Thursday in connection with two bomb threats made against Evanston schools earlier this month.
The unidentified 14-year-old boy was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at Nichols Middle School, 800 Greenleaf St., where he is in eighth grade, said Deputy Chief Joseph Bellino of Evanston Police Department

Music teacher receives probation for bomb threats
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A 28-year-old former music teacher was given five years' probation Monday for making bomb threats at the elementary school where she worked.
Anna Markle, of North Syracuse, pleaded guilty to one of four counts of first-degree falsely reporting an incident in a plea agreement with prosecutors. She could have received a maximum prison term of up to four years.

Thank you for the report.

Did you stop and think about the connection to the pumpkin bomb in Venezuela in post #4011?

It makes me think that this is going to be a dangerous week, with all the pumpkins that are floating around.

They are getting to us, one by one, "gift Boxes" have bombs, as to lost briefcases and now pumpkins.

It has been many years since I read the Grapes of Wrath, you may want to read it or check it out, before giving it to a kid to read.

It was an ugly time in this country, but a real time too.
