Big thanks for the update, All4one. I would like to know more about the kind of folks Daniel Wolcott befriends.
Shivers up my spine reading both of your posts today.
Russian advisors arrive - missiles to follow
SNIP: Putin has promised the Palestinian Authority in Gaza 1,000 armored personnel carriers. He is also going through with the sale of the state of the art Iskander SS-26 surface missiles
Laughing, at your cold trip. It is good you got away and could breate fresh air.
Once, when we were still camping out of a 55 Chev wagon, one kid had to sleep out of the car, the first night, it blew over the cot that Debra was on, so the next night we moved from Lake Isabella, to the Sequoia Park, Scott slept outside and it snowed on him........so we went on to Portland and visited Bill relatives......they had warm beds.
On the shoes and extra clothing, during WW2, shoes were rationed as was cloth for clothing.
Coffee, sugar, butter and meat were also rationed, some to be sent to our military, and some to remind us that we were all at war and needed to share what we had.
I remember buying horsemeat in the local one tiny room meat
market in Otay, California.
Of course tires, and cars were almost impossible to get.
Gas was rationed.
In 1941, we made our own needed supplies.
Today we will have a double hit, it has to be shipped to the U.S., then shipped to us all over the country.
It will simply not be on the shelves.
In my county we grow no food.
But in 1944, we went to Dallas and my uncle had a huge warehouse full of sugar and tires, I saw it and knew it was for the black market.
He did not enjoy his wealth, he dropped dead at about the age of 40, in the year of 1945 or 46.
And that is the way life goes.
My best advice is to learn the old ways of the 1800's, how
to make soap, bread and shoes.
For years on my bad feet, I wore only cloth shoes, Mary a dear friend made them from scraps on the upper parts and the soles were a couple layers of old jeans, with a soft inner sole of an old wool coat.
She took her pattern from the common canvas slip on deck shoe.
So many people wanted them, that she made them in all sizes,
and I sold them in the shop that I owned.
In those days, we went to our small town dump for old coats and jeans, that we used in quilts and shoes, etc.
For the next war, we will have many enemies and will need to either survive or die.
It will really be a matter of what you have learned and stored in your head, that will help you to survive.
Invest in a couple packages of good Dental Floss. It will be invaluable to you, you will need to have large needles and smaller ones.
With the floss, you will sew up wounds, shoes, tents, coats and other clothing.
You might even fish with it, or tie the branches of a tree into a shelter with it. It takes up no room and is
strong. Fish hooks if near water.
Most people think of gold for money, but brandy is both a
medicine and trading stock. Brandy is a good cough syrup, it can be poured in a wound, I would think for open wounds vodka or whiskey would be better.
Of course some drunks will trade all they have for booze.
I sent by freep mail a file of cosmetic recipes to several freepers, if anyone wants them, the simple kitchen based kind.
For real hard times, remember that any vegetable or nut oil will work on dry hands, lips and skin.
Thank you Cindy for the link. Russia sure has some interesting relationships many of which are detrimental to her health.
You're both welcome to a piece of homemade apple pie baked today (cyber tasting of course).
Having a "Dad Degree" is just as important as the other one. Your Communiques are very enlightening. You risk a lot for your family and us. Listening to "It's a small world after all" qualifies you for the exemplary service to family and FReepers award.
The Palestinian Interior Ministry statement did not say how many
Russian officers arrived in the territories and how long they would
stay. Two months ago, PNN reported, Russia promised to help the
Palestinian security apparatuses in training and armed support. <<<<<<
I also found the above interesting, just how many did come?
But the real odd part of this is in post 3037, why is Egypt now ruling Palestine and calling all the shots, I read all of it and the comments.
I guess I still think of Egypt and escaping nazi war criminals who moved there, after WW2.
Russia has to know that she is starting a war, when she gets involved in attacking Israel.
I have long thought that Russia wants the little countries to keep us busy and spread out and then she will come in for the kill.....of America.
Times are right, half or more of the people in the United States are anti U.S.
The hate of the world is boiling over and is still being stirred.
All of our war materials are bought overseas, China and Israel make our bullets.
The next war, we will be fighting with rocks and tree limbs.
Russia, China, communists and the muslims.......now that is most of the countries in the world.

SNIP:If Americans are hurting from $3 gasoline, wait till they feel the pain of $4, or even $5, diesel fuel.
We'd better get ready, because it's probably on the way. On Monday, the price of diesel reached an all-time high of $3.21 per gallon, and that may be just the beginning of a long-term rise. Over the next 18 months or so, parts of the country could be seeing shortages of certain diesel blends, and the resultant price spikes.
Yep.
First a hint, that I have intended to pass on for weeks.
If you can find a used parachute, buy it.
My friend Mary, used a piece of one for a lap robe, a single layer is warmer than a blanket, as I recall it is air proof.
For our family quilts, we would use parachute, intstead of the common quilt batting, but NOT in quilts for tiny babies, due to the danger of them getting it over their mouth and nose.
Mary tied her head in a triangle of it for a hat.
I always intended to use it as a liner for a quilted jacket, as the parachute weighs nothing.
If you suffer from cold feet, wrap the feet in a piece of parachute and then don your shoes (plastic bags will also work as socks.).
You do understand that I am not offering beauty tips above, but when I am hungry and cold, I do not look in a mirror..
smiling a bit here and remembering and all the wise and wonderful things she knew.
Mary was born in 1895 in a West Virginia town.....I found her in Wellton, Arizona in 1970, she has a garage sale and I went......and we were fast friends for 15 years, all that she had left to share.....one of God's blessing paths.
This first link looks interesting, some will have the instructions, others will want to sell things to you, there are enough free patterns out there to meet your needs.

Free patterns, the Japanese Kimono sites will have pants patterns, that are about the same as the muslim or chinese slip on and tie with a string.
Of course the first site here, for dolls is going to get all the grannies in trouble, I dare not even open it and see the wonderful new dolls that have been added, while I was out looking for terrorists and their messages, I have boxes all
printed out, ready for the next life, when I can see for fine sewing again.......smiling.

Gibbons and Duke are good, do learn these weeds.
We read almost daily that the people in North Korea are keeping alive on grass, I pray there are still weeds growing.

Shelter and note at the bottom of the page, the hint of using old tires as a fish trap.
For those of you who make it to the country, if you can find bales of hay, they make a wonderful shelter or you can build a house out of them, with branches to keep them from falling on you.
I used bales of hay in the spring, 2 on long side and one or 2 at the end with an old tent for a top or even plywood, makes a good brooder for baby chicks and ducks.

I am amazed at the steps the world is taking to fight the bird flu.
The numbers of birds/poultry killed is beyond counting, they are ordering super supplies of the drugs for people and birds.
This is not just a whim of President Bush's as the left wants it to be, if they read ProMed, they would know that the countries of the world are just plain scared.
I haven't posted even a fraction of the reports coming out and they are coming faster than I can even read them, will go in a bit and see what is out today.

One of my favorite:

Cornbread fries nicely in a campfire skillet, people turn up their noses at cornbread, it is for poor people, what they have never done, is look at what is in the corn.
I heard the other day that people under stress eat a lot of corn products, for the "feel good" effect, I am thinking B vitamins.
Cornbread has more energy than any other bread. I read once that a Mexican diet of beans, rice and corn, gave a perfect balance of amino acids and vitamins, with the peppers added for the highest source of vitamin C...(I am being careful, as I never remember all those fancy words from the scientists and am only interested in "Is it good for me?".
The American indians grew pumpkins, beans and corn and also squash, this with the wild plants and animals was a good diet.....
Do buy corn, bean and pumpkin also summer squash and winter
squash seeds, store in a fruit jar, in the dark, they will keep for years.
If you have an unused spot in the yard, you can plant the seeds from squash and melons, don't make a big deal of it, just throw them out and cover a little for keeping flies off, maybe you will get a free crop.
Survival seeds should be the old varieties, not the new hybrids, as the hybrid seeds will not grow if saved one year to the next.
Back to cornbread, you can add all kinds of things to it, in the south, we add bacon or onions or?
My favorite is with a can of cream style corn added to the batter and a can of the diced mexican chiles, then once in the pan, I push slices of good cheddar cheese into the dough about half way.
It will be be a heavy almost casserole bread, wonderful alone or with beans.
I draw the line at the recipe for cornbread with broccolli in the batter, but might try other vegetables.
I have kept foster kids that you hid the vegetables from them, so I always cook a package of frozen mixed vegetables with macaroni, for macaroni salads, still do for myself.

The Neithammer book is on the top line, it is a very good book, I have it and it is as accurate as any one book will be.
Are you aware that you can eat the roots of common cattails? it is almost a potato, the very young sprouts of it and some bamboos will cook like aspargus.

FBI called to Arlington Heights
KWQC-TV, IA - Sep 25, 2005
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. Federal authorities were called to Arlington Heights after a 24-year-old man was found driving a car with a bogus New York license plate.
Rahul Kalra was pulled over early Friday for a traffic violation. When police searched the car, they found red and blue emergency lights, a siren, a police scanner, a C-B radio and trunk-mounted antennae.
They also noticed that the car's New York license plate was home-made.
The F-B-I was called when local police learned that Kalra was carrying California and Illinois driver's licenses, a Hong Kong permanent resident card and a passport indicating recent travels to Canada, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Kalra was charged with displaying fraudulent license plates, unlawful use of red and blue flashing lights, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and failure to signal turns.

Urine may be one way to spread mad cow disease
www.chinaview.cn 2005-10-14 09:57:40
WASHINGTON, Oct.13 (Xinhuanet) --
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The researchers concluded that prion transmission through urineis theoretically possible.
And this might explain how scrapie is spread among sheep, and why chronic wasting diseases are detected in wild deer and elk in western states of the United States and elsewhere.
Food and feed that contain infected body parts of animals have been believed to be the only way to transmit the brain-wasting diseases, or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), which are fatal and incurable.
Its version in human is known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. People eating beef infected with mad cow disease could develop a version of CJD. And 151 people have so died around the world.
The Swiss researchers suggest that urine might be added to the list of animal remains to be watched for as a possible source of transmission."
