IRAN DESIGNS NUKE WARHEAD FOR SHIHAB-3
MENL ^ | 10/11/2005 | MENL
Posted on 10/13/2005 10:08:01 PM PDT by F15Eagle
LONDON [MENL] -- Iran was said to have designed a nuclear warhead for the Shihab-3 intermediate-range ballistic missile.
The United States has briefed several nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency of an Iranian program to develop a nuclear warhead for the Shihab-3. Diplomatic sources said the U.S. briefers asserted that from 2001 to 2003 Iran designed and developed a circular warhead that could detonate at an altitude meant to ensure optimal damage.
An empty nuclear warhead was said to have been installed on the Shihab-3 for two missile tests in mid-2004. The sources said the warhead appeared similar to a Soviet-based intercontinental missile deployed by Moscow in the 1960s.
The sources said that in August the U.S. delegation briefed such countries as China, India, Russia, and South Africa ahead of last month's IAEA board of governors meeting in Vienna. They said the briefing helped persuade some members to either support or abstain in the vote on a British resolution to refer the Iranian nuclear file to the United Nations Security Council. India supported the British resolution, which did not set a date for the submission of the Iranian file.

U.S. HATE-CRIMES BILL 'THREATENS FREE SPEECH' Global movement sees it as attack on natural family" (October 14, 2005) (Read More...)

From my files:
Letter to the Editors, Washington Times, circa fall, 1998:
In the waning hours of the 105th Congress, quiet efforts to pass controversial legislation are under way.
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act... cites violence based on sexual orientation as a Hate Crime.
Hate Crimes have commonly been racially motivated. Only in Canada has sexual orientation been included in anti-hate and human rights legislation. The Canadian law does not focus exclusively on physical violence-- it includes all forms of communication as well.
...As a Canadian living in the United States, I fear for your freedom, mainly because you take it for granted.
If my words were published in a Canadian newspaper... I would be charged with inciting hate under the criminal code.
Freedom of speech no longer exists in Canada-- I could not state that AIDS is largely found within the homosexual community, nor quote statistics to back up my assertion.
My opinion would make me a criminal. Since "tolerance" has been redefined... only Political Correctness is tolerated...
The Hate Crimes Prevention Act is a signifigant foot in the door for homosexual rights lobbyists-- it validates the entire... movement as an endangered group in need of special legislative protection.
Violence against any person is already illegal, no matter what the motive.
I find it offensive that violence is noteworthy only when the victim ( is)... a member of some political action group.

Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6
In all of our talk about the stolen jet, none of us said a word about the fact that there to be fighter jets in the sky to take down planes, that flew with out lights, radio or transponder......

Pakistan earthquake - Osama bin Laden's doctor joins jihadi relief work
Associated Press | October 14, 2005 | MUNIR AHMAD

"Bin Laden doctor joins jihadi relief work"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "A Pakistani doctor who once treated Osama bin Laden is among hundreds of volunteers from an Islamic group who are participating in relief work in quake-hit areas of Pakistan and Kashmir.
"We have sent 50 trucks carrying relief goods to Kashmir and those areas of north-western Pakistan where the quake killed thousands of people," said Yahya Mujahid, spokesman for Jamat-e-Dawad group, which describes itself as a charity.
The group is headed by Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, a senior cleric who founded the anti-India Lashkar-e-Tayyaba in 1989.
Lashkar-e-Tayyaba was banned by Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf after New Delhi accused the group of being involved in a December 2001 attack on the Indian parliament in which 14 people were killed, bringing the two nations close to war.
Yesterday, Mujahid said Jamat-e-Dawad had set up a field hospital in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan's part of Kashmir, where the 7.6-magnitude quake caused massive casualties and damage.
"Our people are also helping those affected by Saturday's earthquake in Indian-held Kashmir," he said.
"It is also jihad (holy war, or struggle) to help calamity-stricken people." He said the group's main field hospital in Muzaffarabad is being run by Amer Aziz, a British-trained orthopaedic surgeon who was detained after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. He was suspected of links to militants, but was later freed."

U.S., Iraqi Forces Disrupting Terrorist Operations, General Says
By Gerry J. Gilmore
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Oct. 13, 2005 U.S., coalition and Iraqi forces are disrupting terrorist operations in Iraq, including al Qaeda efforts in that country, a senior U.S. military officer said today.
A series of recent "aggressive operations" conducted by U.S. and Iraqi forces have helped to erode terrorists' effectiveness, Army Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, spokesman for Multinational Force Iraq, said from Baghdad during a video teleconference with Pentagon reporters.
Those operations resulted in the collection of enemy ordnance, as well as "taking out terrorists and foreign fighters (and) their leaders," Lynch said, as well as killing and rounding up supporters of Saddam Hussein's former Baathist regime.
For example, during a joint-U.S. military sweep conducted Oct. 12 in the Euphrates River valley, soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines found an enemy weapons cache containing 1,000 artillery shells.
Those shells "were clearly designed to be used to build improvised explosive devices," Lynch said, adding, "most of the IEDs that we see have some version of that artillery shell as part of it."
Other U.S.-Iraqi military operations conducted in the Euphrates valley in recent weeks have stemmed the movement of foreign fighters from Syria into western Baghdad, Lynch said. Non-Iraqi terrorists, he pointed out, are responsible for the majority of suicide attacks in Iraq.
Additionally, 100 known leaders of al Qaeda in Iraq have been removed since January, Lynch said. Six of those terrorists, he said, were key agents of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, al Qaeda's mastermind in Iraq.
And of the 55 terror leaders displayed as characters on a set of playing cards at the beginning of the war in Iraq, he said, 45 have been captured or killed, with just 10 remaining at large.
Today Iraq has about 200,000 trained and equipped security forces, Lynch said, which includes 115 combat battalions.
"Every day we conduct joint and combined operations with the Iraqi security forces, and every day we see more and more capability," Lynch said. And, in many of those operations, he said, Iraqi security forces outnumber U.S. and coalition forces.
As the Oct. 15 referendum on a new Iraqi constitution nears, enemy attacks appear to be on the decrease, Lynch said.
However, "there will continue to be acts of violence" in Iraq, Lynch predicted, because the insurgents there "have declared war against the democratic process."
