The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Do you recall the paint ball stuff in a garage yesterday's report, in Georgia as I recall, this is the post (2369) that says it "was paintball stuff"?

I thought it connected to terror, but could not recall the details, now in the middle of the opening post on this Malkin thread, she mentions the "Virginia Paint Ball jihadii's".

Rough day. Good payoff.

Thank God for a good outcome. With extended wait times at our nation's hospital emergency rooms, I've heard people joke they'd have gotten quicker treatment had they gone to a veterinarian instead of an MD.

Closing my eyes and imagining that emergency waiting room with biological or chemical emergency and the potential for quickness of treatment for incoming victims.

No Amtrak Service Out Of Syracuse

Amtrak representatives tell us that all passenger train service has been halted in both directions out of Syracuse due to a train derailment. The tracks will be closed until at least noon on Thursday.

Amtrak says it is bussing people between Syracuse and Albany. Passengers who don’t want to take the bus can apply for a reimbursement, but Amtrak officials say it is unlikely they will get one because alternative travel arrangements are being provided.

The derailment happened in Amsterdam, NY, which is just west of Albany, around 8:30 Wednesday morning. There are reports that several cars have derailed on a CSX train, and one box car has even fallen into the Mohawk River. Amsterdam Police say two sets of tracks have been torn up because of the accident. In all, 18 cars left the tracks.

There are no reports of injuries.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BEIJING, China (AP) -- A man armed with homemade guns opened fire at a primary school in eastern China, injuring 16 students during their morning exercises, a state news agency said Thursday. No deaths were reported.

Police were searching for the man, who escaped after the shooting Wednesday at the Niutoushan Primary School in Guangde County in Anhui province, Xinhua News Agency reported.

There was no indication of the reason for the attack or whether police knew the man's identity.

Seven students were hospitalized with severe wounds, while nine others received less serious injuries, the report said.

China has suffered a series of attacks in schools over the past two years, usually involving knives. The attacks have killed a total of at least three children and left dozens injured."

Blaze engulfs wine warehouse on Mare Island

VALLEJO, Calif. (AP) - A fire tore through a warehouse on Mare Island on Wednesday, threatening millions of dollars worth of vintage wines and other goods.

The fire at the 240,000-square-foot facility started at about 3:40 p.m. at Wine Central Services, which stores wine for Bay Area wineries.

About 80 firefighters were battling the blaze into the night and hoped to have the fire contained by Thursday morning. Three employees were safely evacuated from the building and there were no reports of injuries.

"This is a classic type of fire where firefighters could really get hurt," Vallejo Fire Chief Don Parker said.

Jack Krystal, the chief executive of Wine Central Services, told the Vallejo Times-Herald that there were hundreds of thousands of bottles of wine, sugar, pasta and other goods valued at several million dollars. The extent of damage was not immediately known.

Authorities said no other structures were threatened because the wine facility is in an isolated location of Mare Island, a former Naval shipyard that has been developed with houses.

Firefighters hadn't determined the cause of the blaze.

A senior intelligence officer of the Armed Forces disclosed Tuesday that the terrorists’ groups might "launch" an attack on these places in the last quarter of the year.

"It’s a strong possibility that these terrorists might conduct Bali-type bombings in Metro Manila. We consider the months of November and December the critical period," the intelligence officer, who requested anonymity, said.

The source made the revelation a day after the military confirmed the presence of two terror cells of JI and Abu Sayyaf in Metro Manila.

The source added that they have identified the JI operatives who were in Metro Manila. The intelligence officer refused to elaborate.

Lt. Col. Buenaventura Pascual, the AFP Public Information chief, said that each terror cell has at least three members."
