[history]
Hours before New Orleans Police Superintendent Eddie Compass announced his resignation, Tony relayed some hot information he had heard from his Capitol Hill sources. It regarded an FBI investigation currently under way.
You can go to the source above and listen to that segment of his radio show.

"Tip of the Iceberg..You can't do that with Just One Guy..No way one guy could invent 700 cops..Where did that stuff go?"Right. And that was just the police force! No wonder NO was so free of crime! (s/)
Now think, folks, just because the city payroll was padded doesn't mean they were all that smart and creative in trying to conceal it. Remeber, this is LA, after all. Who is going to check? There is no need to carry the deception any further than the city treasury. So no equipment, no actual names, no nothing. Just the big payroll and some way to transfer the money into other accounts.
If true, which will be verified soon enough, of course it is the itp of the iceberg. Had to have been going on for years, perhaps generations. All or part of those bogus FTE's were already there before Compass took the job.

Cops that end up in jail usually get what they deserve. We can only hope!

So Clintoon's 100,000 cops program was really about 20,000 cops and 1,000 crooks who pocketed the payroll cash so generously provided by the enslaved taxpayers of the US. And these are the thieves Mary Landreau wants us to give $250 BILLION to! Any Republican who votes for more aid to LA than the $65 BILLION they've already passed needs to be voted out of office in '06. Your math's off; it's 20,000 cops and 14,000 crooks.

Someone said here on FR when Nagin and Blanco wouldn't let the feds come into NO that it was because the corruption would be uncovered. Looks like they were right.

You can bet the phantom cops are the tip of the iceberg. A team of forensic accountants should go through every department in the city. Then the state when they're done.

I wonder how many of the ghost officers were included in Clinton's 100,000 federally funded police. Two-part likely answer:
- All 700 ghosts
- Every "officer" claimed to be funded by S(l)ick Willie's "100,000 new cops" program

Katrina turned over a big rock. What do you bet that said officers were most generous with their campaign contributions?

Where was that payroll money going? Assuming it was a payroll scam... it's also possible that, given the chronic problem of staffing the NOLA police force, that the "phantom" officers were also used to make the situation look much less worse than it was. It's probably not an either/or situation -- both scams are equally likely and complement each other.

I think that in view of the migration from New Orleans, and as a requirement for any Federal asistance, the entire city voting roles be purged. Anyone who can prove they really live there be required to reregister.

What do you bet that said officers were most generous with their campaign contributions? How about the officers' union?
Were the unions making money off phantom employees, from any department?

Racist FEMA's fault! Why did George Bush allow New Orleans to become so corrupt? Give Mayor Nagin a $300,000 bonus for uncovering this scandal - no thanks to the Federal government!
BTW - wouldn't it be funny if the money was being filtered to the Governor's coffers?
