Two centre-right parties were expected to sweep to victory in Poland's general election, pushing from power ex-communists stained

Last evening I cried seeing the suffering of the Poles in a History channel show Betryal:Battle for Warsaw and the smugness on the faces of Roosevelt and Churchill and how they betrayed the Poles. I also felt ashamed at being an American. And yet now, they have been our best allies (friends) now in the war on terror. Bravo to them. I am very proud to be a second generation Pole. I am very proud of their bravery, their strength and determination under such horrible, indescribable conditions. I could write a book but will end by saying, "Stol Lat" and God be with you all in your new government.
I love it! As one who is married to a man with a VERY Polish name (no one can EVER pronounce it) - I think that picture is great!
("For your freedom and ours").
God Bless Poland!
This is pure nonsense as long as we are in UE and Kaczynski knows that.
What do you mean by so quickly?
As fas as I can make it out, we have held for aproximatelly one month against both Nazis and Soviets. Look at France. Eee ok bad example.
I stand corrected. Remember, time was relative back then. I have to assume that by the time word got to the US, uit appeared Poland had fallen.
You (I assume you are one) Poles are made of stern stuff. The USA is fortunate to have Poland uas an ally.
15,000 Nazi soldiers were killed by Polish troops during Case White. That was in one month alone. Imagine if that had been the toll in Iraq.
Some Catholic US Republicans, like George Weigel, have been arguing/propagandizing for classical liberal-style economics in Poland ever since the Soviets left, if not before. I don't know how influential they've been.
I'm more interested in whether the new coalition will change its attitude towards the Iraqi occupation. Remember, the ex-commies were the ruling party at the time Poland agreed to support us in Iraq.
This is good news. Kudos to our Polish friends for their conservative choices.
"I think one day some will thank us for showing others our great country and what we believe."
Our children and those yet unborn will stand on the shoulders of patriots. Be strong great country - Poland!
For my polish siters and brothers. This is beginning to be kogiel mogiel. Eto we have to wait and see what happens. I have to switch to polish.
Zaczyna mnie to deko wkurzac. Kaczynski zaczyna sie chowac. Ja i tak bede glosowala na Tuska, ale bylam swiecie przekonana ze wspomorzenie byloby na Rokite. Nie glosowam na prawice zeby sie klocilii jak wroble, ale zeby wykorzystac sytuacje, jestem deko wkurzona ze SLD otrzymalo prawie 12% 55 mandatow. Z punktu politycznego to wszyskto jest ulozone, tyle ze zaczynaja sie przepychanki, ktore sa nieuktalizowane wsensie faktu iz albo nastapia zmiany, albo bedziemy mieli doczynienia z facetami rzadzacymi z tylu a nie z przodu. Kaczynski musi sie wkoncu zdecydowac a nie chowac glowe wpiasek jak strus. Kto kolwiek wygra czy Kaczynski czy Tusk to swietnie, ale w koncu do jasnej choinki nie glosowalismy na prawice zeby prosze was z tylu szly teksty. Ktos chcialby to przetlumaczyc na anglika, jezeli wogle byloby to mozliwe:}}}}}}}}}
"PS The dresses at post #14 are definitely Ukrainian."
"Then you dont know well my country."
Kurcze,dopiero teraz tak wiesz sobie spokojnie usiadlam i czytam to wszystko i patrze sie na pierwsze zdjecie i cos mi sie skojarzylo, kurde ale palnelam gdzies mi bierki uciekly:}}}}
No it won't. All major Polish parties supported the war in Iraq.
"We seem to have a growing Freeper community in Poland.":}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
About the new Polish govt's international role, we shall see. I suppose there is cause for optimism.
About the Catholic church, there is much to be said for it. And yes, some Catholic thinkers have the appropriate respect for classical-liberal economics. But by and large, the Church is unlikely to change on this issue anytime soon. I'm not necessarily talking about the papal-level teaching, but about the overall message the Church conveys through the priesthood and educational institutions. It is not a knock on the Church to say that it has a collectivistic aspect to it, and that this influences its view of certain political issues.
"If only the Germans, the French and the Spanish had half of your brains and courage. If only..."
How many Germans, French, and Spanish does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Hard to say yet, as the Frenchman is having one shocking experience.
I tend to think that classical liberalism has a hideous Cartesian anthropology behind it, so I'm not terribly concerned about it being criticized. I just hope the criticisms are good ones, and not the "let's repeat the op-ed I read in the paper today" kind.
