LOS ANGELES Thomas Ross Bond, who played Butch the bully in the "Our Gang" comedies of the 1930s and 40s, has died.

He was 79.

His manager says Bond died this afternoon at Northridge Hospital from complications of heart disease.

Bond appeared in some 40 movies in the "Our Gang" and "Little Rascals" serials. He originally played one of the gang under the name Tommy but went on to the role of the bully who torments Alfalfa and the other kids.

Bond also played Jimmy Olsen in two Superman movies in the 1940s and appeared as Joey Pepper in several installments of the "Five Little Peppers" serial.

He retired from acting in 1951 and held various TV production and directing jobs before retiring from a Fresno TV station in 1991.

Services are pending.

"I love Wallace Berry, "The Champ".

I have seen that so many times, along with "Treasure Island". "The Champ" is still a tear jerker for sure.

Regards,

May this man rest in peace.

We loved that show when we were kids. It's great to watch and see California back in the old days. When it was all onion fields as my dad used to say.

May I suggest:

Most little girls don't get it, but little boys think it's freakin' genius.

Believe it or not, this is the time of year when in early morning you can still smell the scent of chives wafting over the Santa Cruz mountains from Castroville and into the Santa Clara valley.

But even some of those fields are beginning to go the way of the dodo.

So much for the theory of " violence in movies = violent yutes. Not once did my four brothers or I take a pipe wrench to the nose or a hammer to the forehead.

How true. As a little girl I never enjoyed the 3 Stooges- too mean and violent. But when my son was six, he would occasionally watch and he would just ROAR with laughter through the whole show. LOL

That cover copies a classic Thrilling Wonder Stories cover. Mort Weisinger and Julius Schwartz were obviously paying homage to the magazine where they got their start.

When you were a kid watching the Rascals, who didn't cringe for Alfalfa when Butch came around?

In my mind, the only dude badder than Butch was...Moe. With a hammer in his hand.

That's sounds beautiful. I'd love to go to California some day. My goal is to take the train out there and go to the Rose Bowl parade.

My husband has a bunch of the dvds he shares with our little boy. About every three or four viewings he throws in the little archive clip of Moe showing how it was all pretend and the tricks they used so they didn't really hurt each other.

Thomas Ross Bond played the bully, "Butch," in 'Our Gang' films.

Bond played a member of the Gang named Tommy. After his first year he was dropped from the cast but returned later in the role of Butch, the archenemy of Alfalfa.

In the 1940s, Bond played Jimmy Olsen in two Superman movies and appeared as Joey Pepper in several installments of the "Five Little Peppers'' serial.
