Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VIII
www.freerepublic.com | September 24, 2005

Posted on 09/24/2005 9:58:36 AM PDT by Howlin

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

Blanco just wants money to induce "her people" back into the state. She has this nightmare that "her people" might find jobs in Texas, and like the idea of living above sea level, and never come back. Dangling free housing is one way to try to do it.

"She is on Geraldo saying that her evacuation plan -- planned a year in advance -- was executed as planned? It was grand and she watched it from helicopters?"

She's admitting to mass homicide then.

If George Bush lets her decide ANYTHING about this money, he is a fool.

The only reason she wants HER "commission" to handle it "inside the state" is to cover up the corruption.

Here's the website for LA road closures:
http://www.lsp.org/roadandincident.nsf/$ViewAll?OpenView

The I-10 Bridge over the Calcasieu River in Lake Charles is closed for inspection after being hit by 2 barges. From news reports, the barges ricocheted off the nearby Isle of Capri casino boat into the bridge.

I-210 is closed near Nelson Road in Lake Charles due to power lines across the road. So you'd have to find a way to avoid these main routes in Lake Charles to continue down I-10 in the rest of Louisiana.

There's nothing on the Texas DOT site about closures on I-10. But the variable message signs on I-10 East in Houston say that I-10 East is closed in Winnie/SH 124. No access to Jefferson County (which includes Beaumont and Port Arthur).

Houston I-10 Message Signs: http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/dms/dmstext.aspx?free=IH-10_East

Texas DOT:

I don't know about I-10 West, though.

The website shows no other I-10 closures in LA.

So long as they can vote the democratic ticket.

She is also upset I do believe that she is losing federal dollers. She was rambling on the other day about the La kids getting schooled and not with vouchers, etc. I think the feds give money based on enrollment and more for special ed kids. NO public schools, everyone is special ed.

And she doesn't like losing medicaid dollars either.

She said it right on Geraldo, which you just heard. I of course, found that remark, well let me put it this way, irritating. In fact it enraged me deja vu all over again just thinking about the cluster .... .

venal, self serving, short sighted.

If every poor evacuee went to another state and suddenly had a new life with good people, good schools, no drug gangs and sang songs all day,,,she would complain and want them back in the projects in NO where drug dealing occurs openly, people are killed, children can't read. She wants the dollers from the feds for these people and the votes.

She barely won the last election. Barely. And Landrieu was hoping for a veep spot on the gore ticket and didn't get it. Now she never will. So she twitches.

[Blanco]

She didn't want to ask the Feds in before the storm because she felt it would make her look bad. That screams "misplaced priorities".

She admitted forgetting important things like asking Bush for the military. So, what more important things was she thinking about instead?

She let thirty thousand people go hungry and thirsty because she decided they needed to go someplace else, and clearly that was more important to her than basic survival for them.

When the levees broke and the city was filling up with water, she asked us all to pray, because at that point she had no other ideas of what to do and just naturally assumed that nobody else did either.

Then when the storm was over, she still refused outside help because she thought she'd get blamed for the mess.

It's not about the storm, or anybody else, it's all about Kathleen.

So now we write her a check for a quarter trillion bucks?
