Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VIII
www.freerepublic.com | September 24, 2005

Posted on 09/24/2005 9:58:36 AM PDT by Howlin

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

I finally went to bed at 2am, woke up promptly at six and flipped on the idiot box.

Right there was the lovely Soledad, smiling and trying her best to think of a way to blame the storm on Dubya.

No fear of that. Did you know you can buy paper strips that you put in your china cabinet and it prevents the silver from tarnishing? I had never seen such a thing. They are made by Haggerty.

Anyway, she bought some because she doesn't want to have me polishing for the rest of the year. LOL!

It was very rewarding to have her look at that cabinet full of silver and say "There! That's what I like to see!"

And now I am going to bed. Good night!

My local news is saying that it is possible for Rita to swing around and head back to the Gulf and become a TS

What the heck is that about?

For example, I loved Raquel in "Fantastic Voyage"...

I don't know, I think maybe the detergent messes up the glaze. But my Mother told me that and I don't question it. She had rules you know.

How fun to have all this "girlie" talk! BTW--I have some lead crystal stemware from my mother--bought in the late 20's maybe early 30's. It has a lot of "cuts" in it and little glass beading and it is gorgeous. There are tiny cordial glasses, larger wine glasses, shallow sherbet glasses and large water glasses.

I am sort of afraid to use it in case I break anymore pieces than have already been broken.

That sounds like my mother....

She had a hard time doing housework the last couple of years before she died...so my sisters and I paid for a maid to come clean her house...

I would call her and ask what she was doing, and she would say that she was dusting...I would ask what the heck the maid was doing...since she was getting paid to do that.

Of course, she was cleaning silver, cleaning my Mom's millions of knick knacks...(shaking head)...LOL

oh, well, whatever made her happy, I was just happy it made her feel better.

Some of our German ancestors came in through the port at Galveston....Illegally so I've been told. Came up the Mississippi to the Ohio to Southern Indiana....Open a stone quarry (One of the first in the state) and built several still standing public buildings.....The grave maker business still stand on the same corner although it has changed hand many many times.

Ah, sounds nice! Use it but handwash one piece at a time and do not put it to drain rim down.

And don't ever wash it while tipsy. I did it once and broke three in a row and then was led away from the sink protesting.

Was the information actually wrong, or just contradict Nagin so he thinks it is wrong?

Last I heard from Nagin till your report just now was when he was fighting with the admin about when to re-populate NO. If Nagin had his way that entire area would have been full of people again when RITA hit and the levies quick patches couldn't hold it.

I don't blame people not wanting to go back. Between Blanco, Nagin, Vitter, Jindal..you have to fear for your life if you entrust it to these people. They elected them, but I'm starting to feel some sympathy. I'm having a hard time finding any competant people in LA they had as a choice to elect instead.

If there are any competant natural leaders in public office -R or D- we would have seen them emerge by now.

Did she get married or what? The RB I mean.

I think she got married shortly after they let her out of the asylum. Probably was a scaled-down affair though.
