Don't doubt that 10,000.
There was probably 2,000,000 folks that left the Houston area. All of our neighbor towns took 'em all in.

If Rita loops it will just come back as a rain event.

Still in Dallas. Storm is making its way up the east side of Texas it appears. Damage assessments should be coming in before too long so that we'll begin to find out what actually took place along Katrina's sister's path.
I heard the sea wall in Port Arthur wasn't topped. Seems the bigger storm surge may have been to the east of Sabine Pass into La.

He probably shouldn't take down the shutters quite yet. I don't think they know what she's going to do.

BTW, I am seeing a lot of folks in the Houston area I don't know.
I keep a Houston area ping list for our loosely organized FR Chapter.
FReepmail me and I will put you on the list.
I will be sleeping soon, but I will reply when I can.

How are things in Kountze/Lumberton area? assuming that is your location from your tag line.
If the storm does come back it won't be as TD and a rain maker not a full blown hurricane. It doesn't have the warm water to feed it for strength. just my opinion of course.

Checking in from The Woodlands, high winds howling and rain in the middle of the night, very few branches down, no flooding at all. Electricity flickered but we never lost it. All calm now.
Jaded called from Huntsville this morning where she evacuated to (from Pasadena) and she is having a slightly rougher time up there with the winds and rain and no electicity, but she's okay!

My dad just sent me 3 pictures of a huge crocodile found swimming in the streets of New Orleans. I knew crocodiles live in Florida, but I was surprised to hear they live in Louisiana and even more that one this large. I don't know how to post pictures, but if someone will email me and provide an email address I will forward the pictures. It's a shame this beast did not take care of some of the looters.

Clear Lake should be ok. Areas may not have power.
Getting gas may be your biggest problem. And the traffic, if too many folks decide to return today.

They have one of the biggest alligator farms in the US down there. The french were really upset when they heard about the storm because that's where they get the skins for belts, shoes and purses.
Leave it to the french to not worry about the people, just the alligators.

That would have just been too much! But it did take me two years to realize that the cable bill did have STORM on it instead of STROM. What can I tell you, I'm obvlivious.

The wine got to me so I fell asleep shortly after midnight and only just got up. We have rain and wind, but haven't gone out to explore the complex yet.
As near as I can ifgure, it is a category one so it shouldn't be too bad from a wind point of view, but I need to find out about how much rain we might get.

I'm sure you are working long days now, and maybe don't have internet access...
BUT, we'd appreciated hearing from you.
Last heard from 3 weeks ago, had evacuated from New Orleans to Baton Rouge and was okay at that time in the first two days after Katrina.
Love to you and especially to your sister.
