I am not going to get into a brawl with anyone here.
But I have to remind this forum, that while everyone is sick of hearing about NO,,there is another story.
Many decent, republican, conservative, democratic,,you name it,,are living through this disaster.
And we hate it like hell when we hear others screaming about incompetence when that is not the entire story.
And for those who say God did this to punish evil in NO, I say as loud as I can Go to Hell.
Some Louisianians, me included, are disgusted with the officials down here. But we voted against them. And we don't deserve the contempt of this forum.
And for those of you who think you don't have looters in your big cities, waiting for an opportunity to do what some did in NO, you are fooling yourselves. That kind of activity could happen in any big city.
And good Freeperes live here, we didn't hire or cause the problem in NO and many worked like hell to elect better people.
So watch where you tread.
This is not meant for you Howlin, but for every blasted hateful freeper who is spewing all over us down here, and I would like to slap every blasted one of them silly.
"Some Louisianians, me included, are disgusted with the officials down here. But we voted against them. And we don't deserve the contempt of this forum."
BTTT
You know that the anger is not directed at the good people of Louisiana.
It's the local authorities and the MSM that everybody is livid with.
Hell, North Carolina just declared 37 counties disaster areas from Opehlia and Cheney is in the hospital right this minute having surgery and STILL all we're hearing is comparisons of Rita to Katrina.
I love NOLA. I have a lot of fond memories there. It's been many years since I last visited, but I want you to know, cajungirl, that we love you and everyone over there.
I want NOLA rebuilt.
Meanwhile, we have had total destruction of OTHER areas along the forgotten Gulf Coast, with more to come.
I'm sick of hearing about NO.
They were stuck on stupid not strengthen and reinforce the levy, since Katrina actually left most of NO homes intact, while Biloxi, etc, had houses and businesses completely annihilated thru no fault of their own.
sw
They are nuts. They are the same people who think all 30 million Californians should die in a major earthquake just because 30,000 gays in San Francisco decide to dress up like idiots once in a while.
We probably have more faux Christians here on FR than any other site on the web. The chance to gloat over disasters in detail and equate them to God's Judgment draws them here like flies to a corpse.
Some Louisianians, me included, are disgusted with the officials down here. But we voted against them. And we don't deserve the contempt of this forum.
I agree with you wholeheartedly!
bump. New Orleans is #1 on my list to revisit as soon as I can and NO is ready.
That said, not on any individual level, if los angeles took an earthquake near the magnatude of Katrina and was wasted in a similar manner, I'd vote for leveling the place and moving the populace elsewhere. Just as I would vote to do in New Orleans. (Difference being, there might not be a choice in So Cal while there IS a choice in the delta.)
You have swamp and sinking land, and we have waterless desert and shaking land.
PS:Unless there were two week's warning and free gas, L.A. evacuation would make NO look like a church picnic.
PPS: as to moving the population of L.A. I also recommend Northern Somalia as appropriate destination for most of Hollywood & Bel Aire.
PPPS: as to moving the population of L.A., I still have hopes of the Texas hill country.
You sound like Mary Landrieu. I lived in N.O. for 20 years and I agree with Howlin. I'm sick of this misguided idea that no one is able to criticize the "locals" in Louisiana. The local officials didn't plan for an event everyone knew would happen. Worse they couldn't handle the stress and react properly to a crisis and provide leadership. It is pathetic they couldn't hold it together for 3 days at the Superdome.
Betsy was a miniature version of Katrina. The local officials had 40 years to prepare for Katrina. Where is the 40 years worth of water and food supplies? Where is the evidence of 40 years of planning? Not to be seen. This applies of course not to just the current local officials but all the previous ones. And those hard-headed ones who refused to evacuate have to assume some responsibility, right?
So don't hand us this liberal mindset garbage that just because you are in the Louisiana "group" we can't criticize incompetence by specific Louisiana officials and citizens. Even though I have relocated I belong to that "group" and I have no problem letting the chips fall where they may.
