You sound like Mary Landrieu. I lived in N.O. for 20 years and I agree with Howlin. I'm sick of this misguided idea that no one is able to criticize the "locals" in Louisiana. The local officials didn't plan for an event everyone knew would happen. Worse they couldn't handle the stress and react properly to a crisis and provide leadership. It is pathetic they couldn't hold it together for 3 days at the Superdome.
Betsy was a miniature version of Katrina. The local officials had 40 years to prepare for Katrina. Where is the 40 years worth of water and food supplies? Where is the evidence of 40 years of planning? Not to be seen. This applies of course not to just the current local officials but all the previous ones. And those hard-headed ones who refused to evacuate have to assume some responsibility, right?
So don't hand us this liberal mindset garbage that just because you are in the Louisiana "group" we can't criticize incompetence by specific Louisiana officials and citizens. Even though I have relocated I belong to that "group" and I have no problem letting the chips fall where they may.
I am on record here as saying the political class here is corrupt. I am in agreement on that.
You are misreading my comment. I was addressing those who are assuming that every citizen down here is of that ilk.
And callng me Mary Landrieu like is an insult. I was calling for Landrieu's impeachment the day after the storm.
The "locals" are not the "local politicians",,that is my point.
