Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VII
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 8:01:35 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

I wish. Those gangbangers need to run up on a rifle company sometime. Just once, with TV cameras rolling would send them all a message.

Tattoed idiots won't stand a chance against coordinated fire discipline, heavy weapons, and combat support.

Yelp! bronchitis headed toward pneumonia...and on top of that I've got a sprained left ankle and a broken toe on right foot.....All just slowing me down not stopping the ol gal.

Nancy, wish we could do more for you and Mike than just pray....

I suspect Letterman will have tape of him losing all his hats. The last count I had was 5 hats, although at least one was retrieved after it flew off his head.

Any of you Texans that find a FOX News hat, you can make a fortune if you sell it on e-bay.

It tells me we're not that far from anarchy when it comes certain populations in our major cities.

Very disturbing. Oh, and thank a Democrat.

FOX: Lake Charles radar has stopped working.
Rainfall is 6.7 inches per hour...much rain NORTH of New Orleans...about 1 inch per hour for NO.

Storm surge mostly EAST of SABINE...
Tornado warnings for Saint Mary Parish until 0730h.
Much rain all the way to Shreveport,
Rita parking herself over NE Tex, as much as 20 inches of rain likely to come from the sky...

He's a Texan. So many ranchers and oilmen there that all kids have to learn "real" and "tough" growing up, left or right.

FoxNews reporting that 2.8 million evacuated in a 500 (sq) mile area of TX/LA.

Amazing.

Yesterday morning, Steve Doocey was reporting that there were no motel rooms available even in Oklahoma (OKC). They were telling people to travel on to Kansas. Those moving north through Arkansas were told to continue on to Memphis.

Hopefully you'll get news soon on who they are. Do those hand held Palm Pilot thingies work even when there is no electricity in the area? It would be a great way to get messages.

A couple of my son's Army buddies went into NOLA with the Guard- they said beginning Tuesday after Katrina passed they were constantly shot at..luckily -like Mike- they'd been to Iraq and had combat experience.

I read after the Galveston 1900 storm the first couple of looters were SHOT dead. The looting stopped.
