Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VII
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 8:01:35 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

Think I will head to bed too. Wanted to stay up long enough to find out right at the moment of landfall where it would make landfall. Guess I'll just leave the radio on and get news updates every 30 minutes.

Is that what that pulled post was? It is too bad that some people have nothing better to do then complain about things like that. Could you post a link.

GeoCities; that explains it. As for the other site, put them images out out judiciously.

"I had just logged off KPLC, now can't get back on. They probably have bigger fish to fry right now."

Nope they are still on. And they are talking about how miraculous it is that they are still on the air. They Thought they would have been knocked out a couple of hours ago.

Further down the hall is a breach from the roof in a conference room - not sure if it's the roof peeling back or what. Gathering up people and are going to bring them down to a lower level of the building. They are saying they can't believe they are still on the air/internet now... Appears they are in a safe place for now - if they disappear it's cause they are moving to a safer place and they will try to set back up as soon as possible.

Try clicking on again, maybe the server is busy. They're going to stay on as long as they can.

General Manager just sat down and says that further down the hall there's a breach in the roof in a conference room. Bringing people down from upper floors.

They're in the yellow area of the storm, soon to be within the eye.

Hopefully by morning I'll hear from my relatives in Houston. I've got a cousin, his wife and their 4 month old daughter riding out the storm with a couple neighbors in Houston. They didn't dare leave town, after seeing the nightmare on TV, otherwise they would have been stuck on I-45 somewhere north of town.
