Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.
MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.
An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.
On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

There are hundreds of barges of all sizes in those rivers.
Yeah... The funny part is that they're going to note that the Federal troops will be in place tomorrow, and took three days to get into place in NOLA.
It actually *did* take about three days to get the Federal troops in place in TX. Governor Rick Perry asked for them on *Monday*. They've been holding station out of the strike zone since Thursday/Friday.
Meanwhile, Babblehead didn't ask for the military until the day of the strike, Monday.
It's nice to live in a state with a clue. Tomorrow is the start of looter season - make sure y'all get an early start to bag all you can before the season closes in a few days. :-D

I was watching Rita Cosby just a bit ago, and she may as well have been wearing hip waders! She could be out there in Galveston Bay fishing her sunken career out of the Bay.
I remember Allison, and from what the discussions have been most of the day, this is going to be much the same.
That's a low barometric pressure and pretty high wind gusts.
Looks like this baby will be passing right over or close to some of the SPR (Strategic Petroleum Reserve) sites I used to visit; Hackberry and Sulphur. lots of salt domes in this neck of the woods.
