In Texas, can't y'all do that about any time anyway?

In more situations than in any other state, yeah.
I still chuckle when I recall a bit I heard on the radio news on day. A woman investigaing strange sounds went into her garage with a gun to find a man trying to steal her bicycle. The news played an audio clip of her describing what happened next: "He told me to go ahead and shoot him, so I did."
No charges were filed.
Technically speaking, you can even shoot people for spray-painting grafitti after dark (under the "criminal mischief" statute), but most folks consider that overreacting.

Not without having to drag them into the house. Under a state of emergency, we can just leave them where they fall. Makes it more convenient.
Only 1) to stop a fleeing felon, 2) to stop someone from causing bodily injury or 3) if they're on your property after dark - if they're in your house, you can shoot them at any time, but just plain old trespassers can only be shot after dark.
Generally, you cannot shoot in the daytime to *prevent* someone from committing a crime against someone else's business property. Under "State Of Emergency", that rule is suspended, along with the nighttime restrictions on trespassers.
As of the first, Texans can carry loaded weapons in our vehicles...no need to get permits anymore. That'll make would be thugs think twice!
