Extremely dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Rita continues to threaten the Greater Houston Metropolitan area. The forecast track has shifted slightly to the northeast, increasing the risk to Southwest Louisiana, and a significant portion of the oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Perry is urging all coastal residents between Beaumont and Corpus Christi to evacuate as soon as possible.

Yes we're all pregnant with a drama queen named Rita. Labor pains anticipated Friday evening/Saturday morning.
Ok so if she lands at the Tx/La border, we're looking at t/s force winds in New Orleans with NE quadrant outter rain bands and possible tornadoes.. right? Someone please tell me I'm wrong. I have family in trailers in Slidell.
I just hope it keeps moving north at landfall rather than sitting for days and soaking the Mississippi basin...
How do you update this oil rig map? Or is that the latest?
Ahhh, thanks for the clarification.
Fox banner was just saying Rita was headed for LA.....so why are all those people on the highway still heading north from Houston? I'd turn around and go home.
The 3 foot elevation for most of that area is probably correct. The town of High Island sets on top of that one high point - the salt dome - that is 38 foot high.
Can anyone explain why we see terrible congestion on the outbound lanes and yet the inbound are not being reversed to eliminate this traffic (contraflow)? I've seen and heard several reports from people who have turned back because they can't get out of town.?????????
LoL Reminds me of last night driving home on the motorcycle. It started raining and my damn visor fogged up. Talk about driving by braille.. I just kept hoping and praying nothing was in the road.
That is what it said on news: nursing homes, etc.
When are you running for president, i'm in.
There is a high pressure ridge that is moving east, a little earlier and faster than they expected...Weather is dynamic, and doesn't always do what the models predict.
Just about everybody that came out with a 3-5 day forecast yesterday or earlier will eat crow, I bet.
If they knew, it wouldn't be called forecasting....
Mandatory evacuation of Calcaseiu Parish!!!
Yup.
Most T'storm systems peak around 4 to 6 pm, several hours after peak heating.
Hurricanes, because of their size, take even longer to react. I think a lot of what we are seeing right now is a reaction to the sun going down, last night.
Is it a coincidence that ERC's take 12 to 24 hours?
Jeffers doan like coincidences.
How about Katritas?
OMG...no
which is Lake Charles
My son is at Ft. Benning GA for basic training in the Army. I see that some of the storm is going to touch into GA, where is ft benning in the mix? Does anybody know?
Fox is confused....Rita heading for LA.....now, Rita to come on shore at Galveston.....oh well, so much for trying to predict these things.
Fox banner was just saying Rita was headed for LA.....so why are all those people on the highway still heading north from Houston? I'd turn around and go home.
go to KHOU.COM.... it is live streaming...
I think they are just not knowing what to do. Fustrated drivers going wrong way.... Temps are going to reach 100 degrees... Not good things instore for People in traffic.
Here we go, Louisiana
