Extremely dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Rita continues to threaten the Greater Houston Metropolitan area. The forecast track has shifted slightly to the northeast, increasing the risk to Southwest Louisiana, and a significant portion of the oil and gas operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Perry is urging all coastal residents between Beaumont and Corpus Christi to evacuate as soon as possible.

She's huge storm, so she'll affect everyone from Houston to Lafayette, but the eye would not cross many structures at that location. Rice farms mostly.
This landfall might the best one we can hope for under the circumstances.
It still pushes Galveston Bay into Houston, although not as far, and it gives some serious storm surge problems for Port Arthur and Beaumont.
But it could be far worse.
I agree. Accuweather called Rita a CAT5 before NHC did - in fact (not naming names, of course) a poster here said they were full of crap. They weren't.
Nope. Accuweather was, in fact, full of crap. It was a petty and meaningless stunt by them to make their moron fanbase excited and happy.
Well since you decided to tell everyone I was talking about you, should I point out some of the other things you have been wrong about?
LOL!
Mayor Nagin on CNN...
Aren't the locusts supposed to be here by now? What about the star of Wormwood?
Nuts, now I got to update my end times score card.
I figure that people use gas ranges (on propane if they live in the country) so what's the problem with camp stoves? And with the power out, you would probably have the windows open.
BTW what part of NC? I live in Norfolk, but I was born 10th generation Carteret County (Beaufort/Morehead City/Newport).
No, because we still have over 30 hours before this becomes a problem.
By the way, this report is incorrect. The trucks ARE at the rest areas, it's the people who are running out before they get there. Houston is using city trucks to try to get fuel out to the people stranded, and TxDOT is using their assistance pickups to try to get cars enough gas to get to the next fuel stop.
If you enjoy embarassing yourself, yes.
Oh, Billie's picture?
Did I miss the post where you gave your credentials?
My picture is there also..
Yes. Bastardi is on Hannity radio program off and on today and just said it about an hour ago. Will be on again soon.
Mason is beautiful!! Please pet him once or twice for me :)
No kidding. YIKES.
But, they didn't have all the vanity plates that we have today. What do you do without any numbers on your license plate?
FRmail me some food when you're done, OK? ;)
Oh, I have no weather-specific credentials other than being a weather hobbyist for the last 11 years. Have some meteorologist friends, however.
Doesn't take credentials for a rational person to notice AccuWeather and JB are both serial liars and often grossly incompetent - and that fans of both of the above are, generally, about the stupidest people I've ever seen on the internet.
>>Oh now Californina wants in on the action.... 4.4 earthquake!

Not very big really though.
