NHC - NOAA ^ | 21 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/21/2005 1:36:24 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Category 3 Hurricane Rita became the fifth major hurricane of the 2005 season during the night. Hurricane Rita threaded the needle through the Florida Straits and moved into the Gulf of Mexico. Storm damage in the Florida Keys and South Florida Peninsula was light, with scattered power outages, scattered tornados, and mild to moderate flooding.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for Galveston County TX and New Orleans. Additional evacuation orders in the Greater Houston Metropolitan Area are anticipated throughout the day.

Crude oil prices reacted as oil producers shut down and evacuated workers from platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

I was looking at a loop that showed the projected direction, marked for every 24 hours. I saw a definitely move north of where the next "marker" was.But she could have been dancin' around and planning to get back on track. :^/ I just want her to "dance" the other direction!

Johnson Space Center is closed. All employees are to go home and prepare for the hurricane. The Russians are taking operational control of the ISS. You know, as a person who was born in 1961 and put up with the cold war, I never would have thought that I would ever see a day that the the US would let the Russians take over operation control of a ISS.

I have been away from FR for a while....I checked the thread where people are posting where they are in Tx..

Saw a post from sinkspur in heavy type saying not to stop in the DFW area because we could get 50-70 mph winds HERE...

WTH..when did this talk start? I watched Troy Dungan last night and the said we MIGHT get 35 mph winds and some rain!!

YIKES!!!

The funny thing is that Bush thinks it's Bush's fault. He apologized last week for Katrina. He and I have a differing views on some things.

wind sheer, colder water, something to steer it to a less populated area - are any of these things in the cards now?

Not from the looks of it.

If you buy gallon jugs/containers you can fill up the jugs with your own tap water, either freeze them or put them in your utility room until you need them. Most bottled water is no better than your own tap water. You also could buy that 99cent gallon of fruit drink /lemonade that they sell at Walmart,Winn Dixie ETC, and either use it for drinking or dump it out and use it to put tap water in. If you have a good sized freezer try to store plastic freezer bags full of water in them. One caution, make sure your freezer is defrosted and does not have any excess ice built up, because when your power is off for days it will melt and flood your floor. Also to keep your good floors from getting soaked when the frozen water melts either put large bath towels under them, or keep them in the garage in a cool place. Both my kitchen and utility room tile was ruined by these things.

My wife and I have a room available for a military wife whose husband is deployed in the service of our country.

Kids are preferred and pets are ok as we have and love both.

Tranquil waterfall with koi in back yard. Private room with your own bathroom.

We will try to make you feel at home and we consider it a priveledge to help a military family.

If interested FReepmail me, dont be shy. Maybe yall can invite us to the coast sometime later, but its certainly no requirement. ;)

Difficult to say with absolute certainty but it doesn't appear to be a wobble. This new track is smooth and fairly linear in nature.

...This incredible drop of 11 mb in 105 minutes is the fastest pressure fall I can ever recall seeing in a hurricane, and exceeds the 10 mb drop in 100 minutes we saw in Hurricane Charley last year...
