WASHINGTON - The Jefferson Parish president's emotional retelling of a mother's desperate calls from a New Orleans nursing home included details that conflict with the timeline of the tragedy.
The story, of a colleague's mother begging her son for rescue as flood waters rose after Hurricane Katrina, came to prominence on Sunday, Sept. 4, when Aaron Broussard, president of Jefferson Parish in New Orleans, was interviewed by Tim Russert on NBC's Meet the Press. (MSNBC is a Microsoft-NBC joint venture.)
New details and interviews with the son whose mother died in the flood show that the tragedy unfolded from Saturday through Monday, Aug. 29 not Monday through Friday, Sept. 2 as recounted by Broussard. The owners of the nursing home were indicted Tuesday for the deaths of more than 30 residents, which officials say occurred on Aug. 29.

I would like to see O'Rielly get on the story and have Russert on as a guest and explain to the folks why he hasn't made the correction. I can just hear Mr. O. "So what say you, Tim?" LOL
Somehow I missed it earlier that CBS had the story debunked. Seems to me that I saw part of a story on CNN this weekend where they were talking about the emotion of the Katrina event including how reporters got carried away by it as well (mainly talking about the reporting of the woman reporter who rode out the store in NOLA). As I recollect, they showed part of the Aaron Broussard crocodile tears segment as part of that spot. Since CNN must have known that the story was debunked, their airing of it weeks later goes beyond the pale.
Hey, this is just Reality TV, News Room style. We all know a certain amount of "Reality TV" is contrived according to what is scripted. While this wasn't "scripted," CPT (Contrived Political Theater) makes for improved TV ratings.
What we got was a very nicely done one man performance,
"Mama, they comin' for ya, Ma, hold on, they tol' us they acomin', Mama they comin' tamarra, I know they comin', they tol' us Mama, they comin for ya." "And, (add tears and screams here to the point of becoming incoherent) she died waitin' fer hep" and then, "somebody betta go ta jail fer this, I'm tellin' ya."
And this Broussard fella, as a local gov't official HAS FIRST RESPONDER RESPONSIBILITIES FOR ALL WITHIN HIS JURISDICTION. This guy knows/knew the responsibilities duties, and authorities in this instance. He probably could have done something even if this event, at the care facility, was in another jurisdiction.
But instead, it served his personal and political purposes and NBC's to curse the federal government for not evacuating every single person in need in a 90,000 sq mile area.
Am I mad about this fraud and finger pointing and the MSM perpetrating yet another set of lies? Yes, indeed I am. I watched this display live and I'm sure many were moved by the emotion of this "story." Yet, now we know it was untrue and the blame in this instance mis-placed.
Bloggers here on FR and elsewhere give evidence to the only truth being told in this horrible set of tragedies. And I won't hold my breath for a retraction or correction from NBC or Tim Russert. They are too busy looking for next blame game -- other than telling the true story of a catastrophic storm that could have killed tens of thousands more.
It wasn't his fault the levy of his tearducts broke down; Bush didn't send enough $ into his personal bank account to keep that from happening. So whaddya expect his tearduct levy to do when his emotions were below sea level?
Exactly. When liberals lie, it is passed off as a "misunderstanding."
I've yet to hear anyone in the MSM state that this charlatan had also been previously slapped with a federal indictment. Some paragon of virtue, that Mr. Broussard.
New Orleans, LA (NOLA.com) -- Federal investigators have issued grand jury subpoenas to Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard and 24th District Judge Kernan "Skip" Hand for records of political donations to Hand's campaigns from Bail Bonds Unlimited, Hand's attorney and Broussard said Wednesday (Aug. 17). The subpoenas offer the first public indication since the conviction seven weeks ago of Judge Alan Green that authorities are |
There should be an official response to such liars -- such as a public 'face slapping' in front of cameras and microphones.
Just like a lot of us knew Tawana Brawley was a phony from the git-go.
I mean, wasn't it OBVIOUS?
How in God's name could anyone seriously picture an elderly woman, phone clutched in hand (a working phone, no less! that most rare of all commodities in NOLA at the time)
-- calling her son day after day after day (with miraculous working phone still working, underwater)
-- and then waiting to drown FOUR days AFTER the water rose to its high water mark?
Confused, my...er... foot.
Broussard is always a cry baby but usually without an audience. This time he had a big audience and blew his five minutes of fame. Pardon me while I get one good laugh out of this situation down here. Bahahahahaha
I'm filing this thread about Brousssard in my 'I've never been so disgusted in my whole life' file.
In Nursing Home, a Fight Lost to Rising Waters (Broussard less than truthful on Meet The Press)
This man is truly a disgrace.
Joe Biden must have helped him write his Meet the Press speech.
This man is a lying D-----bag.
No regrets.
Im sure hes not just another crooked democrat politician..I think it was all another "misunderstanding".
Tim KNEW this guy was under indictment and corrupt just like Dan Rather KNEW about the TANG liar...I forget his name.
The idea around which liberalism coheres is that NOTHING actually matters but PR. Liberalism (which is identically equal to Democratic politics by now) simply amounts to going along with the the arrogant, superficial perspective of journalism. The individual journalist doesn't define journalism's perspective; "if it bleeds it leads" and "there's nothing more worthless than yesterday's newspaper" defines it. That, and "you never pick an argument with someone who buys ink by the carload." That last dictum is arrogance but - since other journalists also buy ink by the carload - it also is cowardice.
Journalism is part of the reportercrat party. There is no actual competition when it comes to political orientation of journalists.
