Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

...And because cars are an extension of a person's identity; you can tell a lot about a person by the car they drive and how they care for it.

I disagree with that position entirely. So your point is that you can quantify someone totally as merely the sum of their posession(s)? I used to operate a '69 Mercury Cougar. The outside looked like hell, and the interior needed a lot of work, but as an Engineer I modified the bloody thing behind the dash and under the hood to where it was a real terror on the road -or off of it! What was on the outside was totally irrelevant -it is what is INSIDE that truly counts!

For the record, it blew the doors off of factroy-new vehicles without even trying (not that I ever enguaged in any illegal racing or similar stunts, mind), and even stomping on the accellerator doing 65 it would still chirp the tyres and sink you deep into the seat with the g-forces.

What is on the exterior is worthless for the most part, and I can tell you many stories of overpriced Gutless Wonders that I have come across as time has passed.

now that's a fair bargain... my wife doesn't even treat me like a "GI in Bangkok". Just a little roll in the sheets and done, no fun....

part of me wishes I had searched harder for a good Catholic girl..

Any way, I can't blame the mosquitos for going after you,
I'm sure your "edible parts" are quite tasty!

Hehe.

You are really a BAD boy, or you wouldn't be talking to me like that.

You know the mosquitos got UNDER my blouse and ate my breasts and nipples up. And every other unexposed part of me.

I really was miserable for a few weeks.

I got over it.

Anyone else care to weigh in on this subject?

Well, I'm a 27-year-old single pastor from a small town, so I'm probably not the best one to ask. My dating life is nonexistent by choice, because I can't afford to ask women out cavalierly (I must be a man of integrity).

I believe dating should have marriage as the goal; if she's not someone I would marry, then it's nothing but a waste of time. There will be no "playing around" with me, no "is he going to EVER ask me to marry him?" type of questions.

There are few women my age that are "marriage material" here -- those type stay away after high school/college graduation, or they return after getting married. I wouldn't mind marrying someone older than me, because I'm mature myself and I just want to marry someone who will be a good Mom to our kids.

Going back to the article, who cares if you can't find someone right now? Marriage is the important thing, and since it is "'Till death do you part," it's worth waiting for the right person. Money makes no difference to me, nor a work-related position -- it all comes down to attitude. If someone is going to try to dominate me, be a cold fish, or both, sorry, it is simply not going to work.

I need a helper -- an equal partner to stand alongside me, allowing me to lovingly lead her in accordance with Ephesians 5:25-30. In other words, it's all about her (from an earthly perspective). Just as Jesus washed the disciples' feet, I should practice servant leadership with my wife -- making sure that everything is for her edification, and everything is for her good.

If a woman doesn't want that, so be it. It wouldn't work out, anyway.

This young (26 y.o.) married man has eleven two letter words of advice for this "successful 32 year old executive".. . . If it is to be, it is up to me.

If you are being "rejected" by these types of women than consider the source instead of whining about how mean women are.

It says a lot about your intelligence and your argument that you immediately take a discussion and try to deflect it with ad hominem straw men. Far from whining, I'm trying to help you understand something that you seem to know little about. The behaviors I related are documented and factual (do a little research); I have seen no indication that your statements are based on anything other than personal opinion. So step up to the plate with something worthwhile and/or informed (in your case I'll settle for just one of the two).

a woman can be as catty or insulting as she likes (certainly not the way ladies used to react to unwanted attention), and the man should just suck it up.

Sorry but WHERE does it say that women CAN act this way and men HAVE TO suck it up??

But you can't punish a woman for becoming an attorney.

No, but you can assess the situation and recognize that in all probability a woman attorney is going to 1)Contest rather than Compromise, and 2)Be more concerned with her career rather than her relationship. A fact which I am certain you can attest to.
