Well, I'm a 27-year-old single pastor from a small town, so I'm probably not the best one to ask. My dating life is nonexistent by choice, because I can't afford to ask women out cavalierly (I must be a man of integrity).
I believe dating should have marriage as the goal; if she's not someone I would marry, then it's nothing but a waste of time. There will be no "playing around" with me, no "is he going to EVER ask me to marry him?" type of questions.
There are few women my age that are "marriage material" here -- those type stay away after high school/college graduation, or they return after getting married. I wouldn't mind marrying someone older than me, because I'm mature myself and I just want to marry someone who will be a good Mom to our kids.
Going back to the article, who cares if you can't find someone right now? Marriage is the important thing, and since it is "'Till death do you part," it's worth waiting for the right person. Money makes no difference to me, nor a work-related position -- it all comes down to attitude. If someone is going to try to dominate me, be a cold fish, or both, sorry, it is simply not going to work.
I need a helper -- an equal partner to stand alongside me, allowing me to lovingly lead her in accordance with Ephesians 5:25-30. In other words, it's all about her (from an earthly perspective). Just as Jesus washed the disciples' feet, I should practice servant leadership with my wife -- making sure that everything is for her edification, and everything is for her good.
If a woman doesn't want that, so be it. It wouldn't work out, anyway.
Your preachin' to the choir here Pastor
If you don't date by choice how would know if a woman was "marriage material"?
Then you should probably really listen.
No one is in disagreement with the concepts you outline. It's "bad faith" practice that's the problem.
I've heard Christian women throw off any personal responsibility under the rubric of "leadership" more often than I've heard about how Republicans are mean/stupid/racist. But as I've said many times in the past "a man can't lead a woman that refuses to follow."
