Woman in power is powerless when it comes to meeting men
http://www.mcall.com/ ^ | September 17, 2005 | Amy Alkon

Dear Amy: I'd like to be in a relationship again, but I never even get asked out (unless you count frisky 85-year-olds and drunks at the corner bar). I'm a 32-year-old woman who's happy, sociable, and attractive. (I paid for college by modeling and continue to take care of myself.) I'm second-in-command at a big company, financially secure, and own a beautiful home. How can I meet men in general, and more specifically, men I'd actually want to date?

Deluxe Chopped Liver

Dear Deluxe: To scare away vampires, it takes garlic and crosses, which make ugly bulges in sleek, satin evening bags. Luckily, all you have to do to scare away men is pull out a business card that says ''senior vice president.''

''Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac,'' said Henry Kissinger. Sure it is — unless you're a woman. Research by Stephanie L. Brown and Brian P. Lewis, published in Evolution and Human Behavior (Nov. '04), seems to confirm what many lonely women at the top already know: When guys go for the woman in the boardroom, it isn't the woman running the meeting but the secretary who wheeled in the coffee and croissants before it started.

Sure, plenty of men will scamper up the corporate ladder for a one-night stand. But, according to Brown and Lewis' study, men looking for dates or relationships tend to prefer their subordinates to their colleagues or bosses. The researchers hypothesize that men evolved to want women they can control as a means of guarding against ''parental uncertainty'' — unwittingly raising kids fathered by the Neanderthal next door as their own. Brown and Lewis think this may also explain why men are suckers for ''behavioral expressions of vulnerability'' — women who act like they might not be able to make it across the street

Would appreciate some advice on telling the difference between a guy not trying because he's wanting a green light and a guy not trying because he's blowing me off.

Be interested in something about him (it needs to be genuine interest -- if there's nothing about him that interests you, then why are you bothering?). Display that interest. Ask him questions (not nosy questions though).

If this draws him into conversation, then he was waiting for a green light. If he seems uninterested in talking to you, then move on

Amen sister. The men sure do like the younger women. But th at was never a problem for me cause I always liked the older men.

But there are a lot of younger men out there these days who are sick of the airheads and like a mature woman. Age doesn't matter if you have the right frame of mind.

Hey I'm heading down your way to Sam Rayburn Lake to fish the BASS women's trail in October -- WOOOWEEE

Bass in grass, my heart's desire.

Know any gals down in Texas who like to fish and want to fish this tourney? There are open slots for woman without boats (we'll fish in pairs).

You are, as they say, a babe

Now that's encouraging, thank you!

Nice dog, too; a real dog,

Thanks again, yes she is a great protector and a terminator of furry varmits

And I agree that is not a norm for younger men to desire much older woman nor do I desire a much younger man....I need someone who knows who Palladin, "Have Gun Will Travel" was...LOL

The guy blowing you off will be rude.

The guy blowing you off will be rude.

But women's and men's idea of what is rude is vastly different.

I forgot to add: once you and he are comfortably talking, then you can mention that your weekend is free, and you're at a loss for what to do to spend your time. That's his gold-trimmed, hand-delivered invitation. He'll either suggest some mutual activity, or it's your signal to move on

most of the women who go to church regularly here are elderly

You might try this place. I understand the members here are on the younger side (at least according to my little brother who has spent some time there.)

Even men who are happily married enjoy being treated as if they were still on the open market.

A lot of men do have trouble with having a spouse that has a position of power. Why? Cultural influences make them insecure in the relationship, making them feel inadequate, becuase they are not the bread-winner.

Of course, y ou can get the 'vampire', who looks to sponge off a successful wife. Perhaps, that is why some women will become cynical about men.

Love Got Lost -- Joe Jackson

Here we go, monday morning at last
In the land of the brave and the bold
Sunlight is hurting my eyes
But it's on to the glittering prize
There's a rent to pay

Gimme a coffee to go, make it fast
There'll be a merger before it gets cold
They've closed down the whole seventh floor
The young guns are ready for war
But I'm holding on

Long ago and far away
I was safe and sound
But love got lost
Along the way

Saturday night, went to see "La Boheme"
Used the spare ticket just for my coat
I guess I should swallow my pride
But I'd be damned if I'd hawk it outside
In the pouring rain

Monday morning, and no-one to blame
Keep hitting icebergs but I'm still afloat
I'd like a new body and face
But I'd settle for a friend with a space
On their calendar

Up to now, and hard to say
Wonder what I've found
But love got lost
Along the way

Here comes Mr. Worldly and Wise
If he touches me again I'll scream
I can't stand his sensitive eyes
Like I'm some dying diva to him

Touch me...don't touch me
Touch me...don't touch me

Long ago and far away
I was safe and sound
But love got lost
Along the way

Well, my brothers once chided me and said I wasn't looking for a wife, I was looking for a vice president....

I guess so. But one that can cook sometimes too. And dance the Cha-Cha.

This lady is apparently very intelligent. The question I have is, knowing your biological clock was ticking, why did you wait until you were 2nd in command to meet a future husband. You could have started much earlier when you were much less of a perceived threat.

My next pursuit is to join the local shooting club. Not to meet men, but to learn to handle firearms. However, if I should happen to meet a nice eligible gentleman there, that would be just neat.

I give this advice to my female relatives.

Join one. I predict that you will be married within two years. I know that I look very favorably on women who are interested in firearms, and I have not seen any woman who joined a shooting club and wanted to get married that wasn't married within two years.

Men at shooting clubs tend to be high quality men, and the competition for their attention at shooting clubs tends to be slight.

Hey,

I have a cousin who has a nice boy-toy 15 years younger than her. They are extremely happy, and I'll bet they'll be for many more years.

Don't know why people get all huffy over age differences.

I always liked older men. Going out with a guy my own age was like hanging around my little brother. Of course I grew up in the rock-n-roll era and I listened to Frank Sinatra, etc.

I have known a few very sexy and mature younger guys, and had many of them pursue me (a few actually caught me:).
