Revised Sept. 11 Panel Report Released

WASHINGTON (AP) --

A new version of the Sept. 11 commission's report on the four hijacked flights was released Tuesday with recently declassified information about terrorist threats and holes in airport security before the attacks.

At the request of the Sept. 11 commissioners, the Bush administration declassified much, but not all, of the material it had blacked out before turning the report over to the National Archives in January.

The new version provides fresh details on the repeated warnings about al-Qaida and its desire to attack airlines in the months before Sept. 11, 2001.

For example, on page 61 a previously classified section shows that the Federal Aviation Administration's intelligence unit received "nearly 200 pieces of threat-related information daily from U.S. intelligence agencies, particularly the FBI, CIA, and State Department."

Also unclassified was the conclusion that the domestic aviation system had, since 1996, "operated at a security level that was, in effect, a permanent code orange."

The new report revealed that the civil aviation system was under under "Aviation Security Alert Level III" on Sept. 11, which meant that screeners were supposed to hand wand or pat down suspicious passengers — but only those who had checked their baggage.

Other details about security gaps before the attacks were also disclosed in the revised report. It described, for example, a report for the FAA in 2001 that showed "both carry-on and metal detection screening performance has declined significantly from 1999-2000."

Airport security has been tightened since then.

Does it contain any info about the gaping holes in security at Boston's Logan airport that John Kerry knew about and did nothing about?

In the Flight 93 movie the other night at least one of the highjackers checked his bag. Then he set off the metal detector and was wanded, but they didn't "find" anything.

Hmmm… Bush’s fault.

Did you think the 9/11 Commission was just going to let that come out without a proper misdirection put in place for the media to conveniently be distracted by?

I forget, is code orange Bert, or Ernie? I'm pretty sure yellow is Big Bird. Could somebody please post the color-coded panic chart?

WHY DID BILL CLINTON IGNORE TERRORISM?
Was it simply the constraints of his liberal mindset, or was it something even more threatening to our national security?

Boy, that commission has so many problems that we need a commission to do a report on the 9-11 commission.

It is incredible that Lehman is a part of this whitewash. Why isn't he putting his balls on the table and confronting his commission peers on this? He must be coopted like the rest. That's right John, take a friggin coffee break. And Gorelick on the commission? The same hatchet-wound that wrote the law for the separation FBI and CIA? If this wasn't so serious it would a CATCH 22 remake. It reminds me of the scene in Apocalypse Now when Capt Willard asks the soldier in the trench, "Who's in charge?" the reply is "Ain't you?".

White House Commission on

Aviation Safety and Security

FINAL REPORT
TO
PRESIDENT CLINTON

VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE, CHAIRMAN
FEBRUARY 12, 1997

In compliance with the Executive Order 13015 of August 22, 1996, the undersigned present the report of the White House Commission on Aviation Safety and Security.

President Clinton announced the formation of the Commission on July 25, 1996. A few days later, Vice President Gore led a site visit to Dulles International Airport, where he and other Commissioners saw airport and airline operations first-hand, and discussed issues with front line workers. This was the first of dozens of such visits. Over the next six months, the Commission visited facilities throughout the United States and in various locations abroad.

Senator Daschle (whose wife, Linda's resume included high-powered jobs with the Air Transport Association, the airline industry trade group, and the American Association of Airport Executives and who had worked as a lobbyist on behalf of American Airlines) pledged his allegiance to ensuring the economic well-being of the airline industry. "There is no doubt that unless we put the airlines back together in a way that gives all passengers the confidence that they can fly again," he vowed, "we're going to continue to suffer as a country economically."

FAA senior executives, chaired by Deputy Administrator Linda Hall Daschle. ...

Consultants to USCTA (US Contract Tower Association) - Linda Hall Daschle

Linda Hall Daschle, the wife of Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, worked for the Air Transport Association, a lobbying group composed of the major airlines, before serving as the FAA's acting administrator under President Clinton; she now lobbies for American and Northwest airlines. All told, the top nine U.S. airlines and their lobbying group typically spend more than $15 million a year lobbying Congress, the Department of Transportation, the FAA, the National Transportation Safety Board, and the White House.

It's difficult to imagine any domestic or international failure or debacle of the past 40 years that has not had it's roots in naive and corrupt Democrats and their naive and amoral agenda. No matter where you look, you do not have to drill far. The Katrina disaster is most revealing. yet will the sheeple get it?
