Neil Cavuto just announced that the Louisiana State Attorney General will file involuntary manslaughter charges against nursing home staff that fled and left 31 people to die in the flood waters.
You just made my day! There is justice in this world. I just hope that they are convicted and spend a very long time in jail. If there is another flood, I hope that they are the last to be evacuated!!!
The nursing home director refused a ride out for all of the patients according to what I heard. So, if this is true, the staff was supposed to stay and die?
He should get a "Go Directly to Jail, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200.00" charge!
After the owners refused transportation for the patients to be evacuated, should the staff have just stayed and waited to die?
I wonder if there will be any actions against the NOPD officers or other officials who called in or quit rather than reporting for duty?
Good point. You are right. The Parish president is Henry J. Rodriguez. http://www.st-bernard.la.us/ppres.htm
"So, if this is true, the staff was supposed to stay and die?"
According to Judge Neapolitano on Fox the owner's have a responsibilty to endure the same hardship as their charges and protect them with their lives.
So, I don't think staff qualifies for that statement, only the owners.
They had five bleeping days to evacuate!!! You are darned right they need to lose their licenses! I would NEVER have abandoned my patients. I am not ignorant of the situation. They could have gotten them out in their own personal cars for heaven's sakes!
Also, was there gunfire near the nursing home or on the way there? You did not mention that in your arrogant post!
I suspect that there will be more of this as time goes on.
I can tell you this. Wilkes & McHugh Law Firm from Tampa are probably already on the ground in New Orleans via their private jet. (Jeb's lawyer Ken Connor is a partner in that law firm). Wilkes and McHugh will sue the pants off of that nursing home and they are the best medical malpractice and NH neglect attorneys in the country.
>>>Also, no family member of anyone who died should get a cent from this.
I would also demand an investigation to see if there are any viaticals that will be paid and to WHOM.
There was a bus for them but they refused it. That bus was offered before Katrina. This emergency was not front loaded. It became a nightmarish clean up operation. People who were talking on the phone to their family members from that home were doing okay until they drowned. The insurance for that nursing home will make a huge settlement. They can't possibly defend the abandonment of all those innocent victims. It's indefensible.
I doubt they called Bush and Rove. Rove wouldn't take those kind of phone calls imo. I heard that buses were offered and they refused them for their patients. For the NH to blame the president is bunk.
These big handouts are going to bankrupt what's left of this country. Bribing people to fix their lives is not the answer.
I saw a local doctor who not once but twice called the owners, and encouraged them to get out.
The owner told the dr. that they were going to evacuate. It seems inconceivable that they would walk away from there, leaving half those patients. Just beyond belief.
Something needs to be done...that just isn't right...leaving people there to die....Bill O had a relative of one of the deceased on his program tonight...according to her, she and her family were assured that measures would be taken to ensure no harm would come to any of the patients....so they left without their relative (think it was their grandma).
Just because a NH looks clean and the food doesn't look half bad, doesn't mean they are as safe as at a family home. This makes a case for utilizing visiting nurses instead of removing patients from their families.
Absolutely agree with you.
