Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco lashed out at FEMA on Tuesday, complaining the agency is moving too slowly in recovering the bodies of those killed by Hurricane Katrina.
The dead "deserve more respect than they have received," she said at state police headquarters in Baton Rouge.
She said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency still has not signed a contract with the company hired to handle the removal of the bodies, Houston-based Kenyon International Emergency Services.
Calls to a FEMA spokesman in New Orleans and the Homeland Security Department in Washington were not immediately returned.

Chutzpah works too, but not enough people outside NYC grasp the full meaning of the word, so "unmitigated gall" will simply have to do.More Freepers should learn at least the basics of Yiddish... It's so expressive in situations like this...

---She can say anything she wants and get away with it from now on.
Bush defined the debate. He took "responsibility". MSM runs free with the quote. Bush checkmated himself.---
We'll see who's checkmated next election.

"In light of the events in the past two weeks, I honestly believe the governor and mayor ought to be forced to help in the body recovery."
You got that right, just like the guards at the concentration camps. Make them carry the bodies.

I am sure he has set up a state-of-the-art command post in Dallas in order to direct the cleanup effort as efficiently as he directed the evacuation effort (TV, fridge, beer and a cellphone)

I have heard more and more complaints about this.
I could only imagine if the body count was as bad as was first believed by many people.
It seems to me that the body recovery would be best handled by the military. I wonder who is actually in charge of this issue?

This is a perfect example of someone who is only good at being critical of the efforts of others.
Somehow these people manage to get into positions of authority by being critical of the efforts of others rather than by demonstrating competence to get things done.
moral of the story is, do not vote for critics, vote for doers.

I wonder who is actually in charge of this issue?I don't know for sure. What I do know is that I volunteered for recovery in MS and was turned away because I was not a "professional".

Seems to me the number of dead is pretty much in the normal range for LA. Just ask yourself how this place "usually" removes the dead. Are they sitting there beside the road waiting on the President to paint an X on their foreheads, or what?
Obviously Governor Blanco has gone off the deep end and must now be forcibly confined and given powerful medicines ~ quick!

Naw, she could screw up a one-car funeral. She needs to be in jail.
