We all knew this was going to happen...
Very possible that these cards were being used by opportunistic disaster "volunteers."
I sell insurance and I had someone last week buying a Harley using the debit card for a downpayment and for first month of insurance.
Some leftist will soon be blaming Bush for this.
Does this really surprise anyone? Many of us predicted this when the program was announced.
The airport's re-opened.
Should be worth it to fly in and pick up one of these.
"'There is nothing legally that prevents us from accepting them. But morally, it is wrong.'"
Don't tell the "victims" about the morality of buying the items that are needed to get them through this! (BARF!)
Me! Me! Mine! Mine! Y'all been opressin' me so much that I thought dat I be derservin' of dis here hand bag. If y'all don be likin' it... Tell Jessie or the good Rev Al.
The looting continues...
$30 on Jamaica Avenue
In their defense, those were really cute shoes!
I have means and lost several expensive items in the flood. Can I use the $2000 as a way of replacing my leather couches? Do I need to get forum approval before I spend the money? Cut me a break. (FYI this is a theoretical discussion as I have not decided whether to apply for FEMA aid yet. One can thank Hibernia Bank for me not sucking down your tax dollars as I was finally able to transfer money from savings to checking on Wednesday of last week. Otherwise, I would be in the same position as those in the Astrodome.)
I hate to break it to you people, but George W. Bush has decided he is going to spend his way out of this problem. Despite the democreeps, unfair and scandalous attacks on the man, there is legitimate criticism to be leveled at Bush in the aftermath of Katrina. I posted such criticism and was called a liberal and far worse in the days after losing my home and business.
A lot of the rhetoric on this thread resembles Klintoon's 1992 Presidential Campaign. "The poor have a right to housing but they have a responsiblity to take care of it." How is that any different than here's $2000 of our tax money, just don't spend it on a Louis Vuiton purse?
I'm amazed that anyone who could afford it would spend so much money on items that I wouldn't pay $2 to own.
But, there just aren't adequate words to express my disgust for those who would abuse the charity of their fellow man in that cold-hearted, greedy and ungrateful manner, and especially when I think of the examples of true sacrifice that are among those that make up the donations given on behalf of victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The government had to know this when they authorized distribution of these cards. Only reason I can think of is the mantra that a rising tide lifts all boats. The money going straight back into the local economy.
Just my TCW.
Still looting, now it's the hard working tax payer footing the bill.
