Vuitton Charity Efforts (3 Red Cross Charity Debit Cards Used at Atlanta Luxury Boutique!)

Some of the Red Cross charity debit cards, issued to Hurricane Katrina victims to buy essentials in their time of need, have been used to buy designer handbags.

A spokesman for the Louis Vuitton shop in Atlanta, Georgia, has revealed that some customers have used the cards, which carry a value up to £1,000, to buy coveted fashion items.

"We have seen three cards," he said. "There's nothing legally that prevents us from accepting them. Morally, it's wrong."

No one can be surprised by this. Same thing happens with food stamps. Ever been behind some one in line at the grocery store and see what they buy with stamps?

Perhaps apocryphal: a woman tried to use food stamps to get cat food and was told it was not allowed. She held up the line and came back with a package of shrimp from the Deli section. Told to me by a neighbor who had to wait (and couldn't afford the shrimp).

It would be cheaper for us to just hand over the cash.

They were low-end. They were African-American. I'm not interested in a discussion about semantics. I just call 'em like I see 'em.

Perhaps you think that way because you are a dick.

Do you consider those two things synonymous?

I guarantee we will see the same type of purchases in Houston at the River Oaks mall or the Galleria.

It's just a short 10-15 minute jaunt from the Astrodome downtown to Chanel, Gucci, Prada every luxury boutique in the book.

Most malls are private property, but there is nothing stopping an outraged store clerk at one of these shops from tipping off local news and having a TV crew waiting for them in the parking lot.

Not just the clerks. Those private property owners are taxpayers, too. Big time.

Shoot, somebody in the store could see the sale going down and call the news.

I'll bet there have already been many purchases like this in the Galleria.

I made a comment that this was bound to happen and then got slapped down for being insensitive to the victims of the hurricane.

Why, those match John (the French-looking candidate) Kerry's campaign photo-op hunting jacket!

You said #74:

" I'm not interested in a discussion about semantics. I just call 'em like I see 'em. Groups of low-end blacks buying new gold chains and expensive athletic shoes at the mall."

And you replied to a poster who called you on it, "How did you determine they were "low-end blacks"?

How'bout what you said: "They were low-end. They were African-American."

Of course they were low end, no matter what color they were. Here we do agree.

"Perhaps I could have said "Low-socioeconomic-status African-Americans".

No, "babe," had you said "Low-socioeconomic-status" Americans, I'd given your rebuttal more thought.

"Could it be that my original comment has merit?"

No, no, no. Not at all, babe. And you ARE nothing but a dick.

I'm suspended for a few days and had to borrow my hubby's account to post this. I've considered leaving FR on a few occasions, for I've endured enough bs, racial bias, total condemnation against the country I was born in (nuke'em all), but a dick like you makes me want to stay and fight. Thanks!!! Posting through my husband's handle right now, but when I come back from my suspension, I'll be watching you.
