Hurricane Ophelia continues to churn off the off the coast of the Carolinas with a track that has confounded computer models and meteorologists for days. Hurricane watches are issued for much of the SC and NC coastline. Northern GA and southern VA coastal areas are currently within the three day cone of uncertainty. Check local NWS service for updates.

She says there's a weird sense of 'whatever' going on up there. They are putting off calling school out tomorrow, and news reports are saying "oh, scattered sections might lose power overnight" as if that's the extent of it. I guess after Isabel everyone's a little big for their britches.
ok
The pier at the Shearton Hotel at Atlantic Beach is gone.
I'm seeing gustier breezes in central NC.
And not one word of Ophelia on the networks.
NBC is in New Orleans.
Thanks for giving me the heads up. I was just about to turn the darned thing on and check out what the MSM was saying about Katrina. Better to just stay right here on this thread.
Swap out "Katrina" in my post and insert "Ophelia".

Question.....how much foul weather can the outer banks take before they are lost to the sea? I'm on the west coast so my prayers are out for you guys in NC and surrounding areas in this slow moving storm.
Talked with my sister in Burgam - about 30 miles north of Wilmington. As of 30 minutes ago, still had power.
Googled for local media, could find none. Like streaming TV / radio. Anyone got something?
Fayetteville, NC. Its stopped raining and the sky is clearing off to the west. Its over.
Thanks for that photo and those reports. Looks like this little storm is causing some major damage anyway.
We got a little bit of rain in the Triangle - surely would have liked more rain. But those on the coast, I know, wish the rain would go away.

NHC Public Advisory Updates are now being published every two hours, on the odd hours. Last update 7:00PM, next update 9:00PM ET.
The all day total was only 1 inch. It was slow and light for most of the day. Very little runoff, most soaked into the yard.
My wife's two friends from the Triangle area will check with her tonight so they can exchange stories. In-laws will run down to the mainland side of Holden's Beach in the next day or two to see how the weekend retreat came through.
