Even so, he said relief crews delivered seven trailers filled with water and ready-to-eat meals to the Superdome before the storm hit on Aug. 29, along with another seven trailers on Aug. 30.

Cold MRE's are good enough for our soldiers and marines.
Free food and water being delivered to their hands, and all some people can do is complain about the quality.
I'm a Marine. There is no MRE that you "can't" eat without heating, just like there's no canned food (like lasagna/spaghettios/whatever) that you "can't" eat without heating.
Anyone who says otherwise is ridiculous.
Additionally, I've never seen an MRE that didn't come with the heating pack, so I'd assume that the people complaining are doing so only for the joy of complaining, or because they were too stupid to figure out how to pull a tab, and insert their entree pack into the heating bag.
I've eaten plenty of MREs- I've never had the time or inclination to heat any of them- and I'm alive to tell the tale.
Some MRE information:

Just a wild guess here. But what would you bet that the MREs and water (or most it, anyway) ended up moved to the locations where local governmnet people were running the show. I remember a newspaper article about some tourists in the Hyatt hotel who noticed that when the mayor moved to the same floor of the hotel bottled water became available.
He would have been a pot of boiling stew for those Voodoo people.
>>>Ted "the Swimmer" Kennedy missed a chance to redeem his sorry butt - he coulda been down in New Orleans diving and saving folks like he did (tried to do) with Mary Jo!
Strategery, let the Rats bloviate all they want, thinking they'll get away with it. Let them dig their own graves, the time will come for the truth, and the Rats will be trapped once again. Don't misunderestimate President Bush again.
GWB must instruct the public on this disaster...failure to do so risks the loss of the less engaged members of the electorate who may have previously supported him...true, he is not up for another election but he must help pave the way for someone who will not disassemble his achievements. I believe this is why so many congressional republicans have jumped aboard this 'slow federal response' bandwagon; they fear defending the President only to be left twisting in the wind as the President's team takes the punches in silence. As I said...I hope they plan to respond at a time and place of their choosing.
This is a blatent hit piece. It was written with full knowledge that the dome was run by LA goons and they kept FEMA and the Red Cross out. It's a remarkably vicious partisan attack piece. The NYTs isn't even fit for fish wrap. It'll rot the fish.
I agree with your post 100%.
Oceanview -- I've had the same thought. If things had happened 24 hours earlier, the left wouldn't have a leg to stand to stand on. Not that I think they have a leg to stand on anyway.
MRE's do have a poach to heat your food in. You add water and it activates the heating element. Pretty good design. Just follow the instructions. If not Tuna Noodle taste good cold.
This is one more myth debunked. There was an article posted earlier that had been written RIGHT after the hurricane hit. Mentionned in the article were quotes from people there talking about MREs and water. When we first got coverage about the superdome, ALL the reporters said that there was no food and water. There HAD been some, but with the large number of people, not everyone got it.
Or maybe it was the same reason they denied the Red Cross entry to the convention center...they wanted the people OUT and didn't want it to be a "magnet"
People in a anxious state don't want to eat. They will need plenty of water to drink. Didn't the Red Cross provide medical supplies for the sick and infants?
After 22 years in the military, I've had lrps, k-rats, c-rats, mre's, etc. They are all edible (although the egg c-rats looked nasty). The mre's are acceptable, don't "have" to be heated up and some are pretty dam* good.

they would have flipped it around then, the argument would have been "Bush premptively sent federal troops into New Orleans before giving the local and state government a chance to react so they could use the military to shoot black people".
I remember media reports that those staying in the Superdome Sunday night had MRE's for supper.
I'll tell you what their problem is: taking responsibility for EVERYTHING. This is really getting old. Using the logic of being responsible for rebuilding hurricane damage and retraining (really) the victims so they don't have live like they were living anymore, I should be able to not have insurance and get a degree when a tree hits my house. Or, am I misunderstanding what is goind on here?
It's time all levels of government get out of the business of taxing me to death to pay for the idiots to live in dangerous areas. John Stossel was on Fox the other night talking about how FEMA paid for his house to be rebuilt twice! The house was on the ocean and practically in the water anyway, but FEMA pitched in $250K to have it rebuilt each time.
This is the problem. And the solution is easy. President Bush should have simply said "let's pray for the unfortunate victims and if you can spare anything to help them, please do so". That would have been more than he should do.
