Geraldo Rivera arrives in a Fox News truck. An elderly woman with blond hair grips his elbow. She's wearing thick dark glasses and a pink shirt. He carries her small white dog in his arms. He's wearing thigh-high waders unzipped to below his knees. We shake hands. "Her relative called one of our stations," Geraldo tells me, explaining how that call went to another station, and then another, and finally to him.
The woman had been stranded in her home for six days. Geraldo picked up the woman and her dog and brought them here. The woman looks frail on his arm, though not as bad perhaps as a lady collapsed on a chair nearby, unable to move. Or a woman in a wheelchair being lifted from the truck, carrying her prosthetic leg on her lap.
"That's the second time he brought her here," one of the doctors tells me, nodding toward Geraldo.
"What?"
"They did two takes. Geraldo made that poor woman walk from the Fox News van to the heliport twice. Both times carrying her dog."
"Are you serious?" I ask. He says he is.

Disasterography.
On the Sean Hannity radio show today (Tues, 9/6) Horaldo demanded the resignation or impeachment of FEMA director Mike Brown (is that the right name).
If anyone should be "impeached" it should be Horaldo, for giving out our Baghdad invasion plan on TV two years ago.
Horaldo was even kicked out of the embedded reporter crew and sent back to Kuwait.
What a phony. During the Hannity interview, Horaldo claimed himself to be a "liberal Republican", which is an oxymoron.
FEMA did as best a job as possible under the circumstances of having to work with a totally inept and corrupt Louisana parish system, which saw police abandoning their posts and Mayors fleeing for the hills.
In fact, I have no more respect for any reporter and/or radio host who is slamming and criticizing the Bush Administration when, at this point, it is clear the feds were hampered by numerous delays and indecision by the state and local authorities.
I still haven't forgiven him for revealing classified troop positions on live TV. If I had it my way he would still be producing gravel in Leavenworth.
Not a Geraldo fan, but I saw the video where the NYT columnist said he brushed an Air Force rescue worker aside in order to `grandstand' by helping a woman in a wheelchair.
It simply didn't happen, at least not from what I saw. "Jerry" was above, risking a hernia or bad back (he's no `spring chicken') and the AF guy tried to help the guy below, and that guy told the uniformed guy that he had it, probably because it was a narrow stairway.
Anywho, Rivera's lawyer will make demand on the NYSlimes tomorrow morning for an immediate retraction.

Geraldo described himself as a "liberal Republican" on the Sean Hannity radio show today. I've never heard that characterization from anyone before, but then Geraldo is a product of a Puerto Rican father and Jewish mother [source: Wikipedia].
seriesly. It's seriesly. Sheesh. And this guy calls himself a .....modz! Oh sh**....OOPS.. never mind! Kidding. I swear! lalallalalllalallallallllaaa.... *nonchalantly sweeps her post under the carpet*
There's no question that Geraldo likes to put on a show. He's still got some "Jerry Springer" in his reporting.
Shep Smith however, I thought, was money all week long.
I too don't know if his "rescues" are legit or not. Don't really care. But his actions on Friday after talking with the police officer at the Superdome were "over the top" to a degree that P.T. Barnum would have winced at. He could have started a riot by his actions. I turned off Fox News then, and haven't turned them back on.
Perhaps he is doing a good job, perhaps he isn't. But that is the problem. I prefer that I can give the announcer the benefit of the doubt and believe what he is saying. That is not possible with Geraldo.
I saw on O'Reilly tonight that Geraldo is Sueing the NY Times!
LOL! guess they lied about him or something.?
I expect nothing less from Jerry Rivers.
Come on people, Slate is crap, and so is this article.
You left out the "I got shot at in Afghanistan!" Which is pure BS. There was a shot nearby - fired by his brother.
Salon.com. Geez, now I'm posting crap.
