I suppose the New Orleans chaos is an interesting subject for Rand fans to apply their favorite philosophy.

I don't particularly favor a philosophy so dependent on an irrational aggresive athesim, but at least it's a strong contrast to the more prevelant nonsense that comes from the left.

Objectivism doesn't require atheism any more than conservativism requires religion. There are many Chrisitian objectivists.

Are Christian objectivists accepted by the orthodox? I thought the true Rand disciples are pretty dogmatic about accepting the whole.

The article does manage to further the absurd notion that lawlessness in New Orleans is because we are fighting a war in Iraq. While chiding others to "think" and act rationally, he illustrates that what appears rational to one person does not necessarily appear rational to others.

Christian objectivists.

I find that mutually exclusive philosophy.

An 'epic movie' made by an ardent fan of the novel? Two words come to mind: Battlefield Earth.

Then you should not be one. You have fulfilled the exercise of your reason.

I refute you with four more: "Lord of the Rings"

I do too, but I loved the book, and for now, it's closer to what we need in NO than some National Council of Churches schmooze-fest.

BTW, one of my favorite games is CASTING the movie with the best person: Arnold for the Swedish/Norweigian guy; Antonio Banderas for Franco (is that his name? Doing this from memory). Unfortunately, Hank would have to be someone like Harrison Ford (perhaps a little too old). But Dagny Taggart is a toughie: she has to be capable, yet feminine, tough and late-30s/early 40s, yet not matronly. Zeta-Jones doesn't do it for me. Sigourney Weaver of 15 years ago would have been perfect.

Casting without regard to time or politics:

Dagny - Faye Dunaway or Lauren Bacall
Francisco - Ricardo Montalban
James Taggart - Larry Linville
Hank - Harrison Ford
John Galt - Gary Cooper (just kidding) - Still working on that one...

Galt did not die for our sins...

What did Christ get out of doing so?

"Objectivism doesn't require atheism ..."

Oh, I'd say the two go hand in hand. According to Ayn Rand:

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

Which Christian religion espouses this?

Then you should not be one

I'm saying it's not possible to be one in their pure form of philosophy

Not that being a Christian is really a philosophy, but a belief system as opposed to faith in man and reason.

Objectivism doesn't require atheism any more than conservativism requires religion. There are many Chrisitian objectivists.

Objectivism regards altruism as being immoral. I would hardly consider that Christian.

I disagree. It's a philosophy that requires irrational aggressive selfishness, although the objectivists define it as highly rational.

"Objectivism regards altruism as being immoral. I would hardly consider that Christian."

Right, that seems to be the sticky wicket of the thing.
