I hate to see the bad PR for the USA. On the other hand, I hope Louisiana's tourist industry wakes up and puts extreme pressure on the authorities to crack down on crime. New Orleans has been a crime problem for years.

New Orleans has been a cesspool forever, everyone who visits invariably reports feeling unsafe. But the more I read, the more I lose any sense of compassion for the suffering there. The population that remained in the city has behaved in an almost identical fashion to the Iraqi insurgents; if they had the ability to make bombs, I'm sure they would.

At this point it is starting to make less and less sense to even bother rebuilding this sh*thole. The two main industries in N.O. have been oil and tourism. The oil operations can be managed from elsewhere and I don't think their tourist trade will EVER recover.

Is it possible that the mud the press is throwing on The President, FEMA, Homeland Security is all aimed at three things:

1) make the President look bad (that is a given)

2)deflect attention from the inept, corrupt Government in what we call Louisiana, USA and 3)pretend that liberalism didn't breed these gangs of thugs.

I posted earlier in the week about Lt. Governor Landrieu getting legislation passed to basically give the criminals a slap on the wrist instead of serious prison time for their crimes;

We've seen the CrimeTv article on the police department and how corrupt it is...

The only way to keep the nasty truth from coming out is to place blame on the President which the MSM all love to do in the best of circumstances.

Bud Hopes for Governor of LA.

Jabbar Gibson for Mayor of New Orleans.

There, that is settled. Can we get Federal control implemented now?

My God, those poor people! In 1986 my husband remodeled one of the major hotels seen through smoke yesterday. He KNEW this would happen. It is astounding to think NO officials didn't. They DID and did NOTHING to stop it.

Mr Hopes, 32, said: "That was the worst place in the universe. Ninety-eight per cent of the people around the world are good. In that place, 98 per cent of the people were bad.

"Everyone brought their drugs, they brought guns, they brought knives. Soldiers were shot.

"It was like a refugee camp within a prison.

"It was full on. It was the worst thing I have seen in my life. I have never been so frightened."

This sickens me to no end. But of course, this just one of many hundreds of reports that demonstrates how the brave, valiant citizens of NO are truly the scum of the earth. A pox upon them all. (Oh wait...according to the health officials, that's only just about to begin...)

And these are the people we are importing into our cities. We must crack their heads if they get out of line. They should get the idea that we expect them to be more civilized than they were in NO.

What we witnessed in New Orleans is nearly an American version of "Ethnic Cleansing" or a small scale - "Get Whitey" day.

The whites who were caught alone and murdered on flooded streets or bridges or in the dark corners of NO will be buried and forgotten. Nobody will hear about the slit throats, those shot in the head, or the raped and disposed of.
Shows who the real racists in America are.

"There were 65 of us, so we were able to look after each other -- especially the girls who were being grabbed and threatened." Mr Hopes said. He said they had organised escorts for the women when they had gone for food or to the toilet, and rosters to keep guard while others slept.

Civilized behavior vs. uncivilized.

Shepherd Smith was lamenting the mayor's decision to evacuate tourists from the hotel directly without them waiting in line at the Superdome. He was implying this was a racist decision.

Why should the tourists have to be brutalized by the underclass, plus, they all had homes and the means to go home. A stupid, off the cuff attempt to be politically correct by Shepherd. The media stirred up much hatred in their attempt to overanalyze each situation.

It makes me damn mad when they are attempting to ambush the authorities during interviews even when the bodies have not been cleared out.

I saw an interview on fox news where people were in line to get into the superdome prior to the hurricane. They were interviewing a group of Brits and Aussies wearing backpacks.

They all seemed in a jovial mood like they were in line to see a sporting event.

I got the impression that they could have chosen to skip this event and go on to the next stop on their itinerary but decided to stay for the experience.

No one deserves what happened to these people and I trust they will chose their experiences more carefully in the future.

Everyone, As I said in #34, I am sorry. I was quick on the "fire-aim" button of the supposed headline. Forgive me, I was tired. Thanks to those with the private Freepmails of encouragement. And to others, please accept my hand in friendship.

Things are still crazy, but we are making progress. Did any of you see Gen Honore in his news conference today? Now you know why people love this man.

The 82nd Airborne is still doing the house to house searches, and this will take a long time. They are finding the dead, and we are working to treat them with the dignity they deserve.

There are so many heroes in this operation, and I ain't one of them. The real heroes are the folks in New Orleans and in Mississippi. As Lt Gen Honore said today, Mississippi yesterday and today, there is swath of destruction 3 to 2 1/2 miles inland, and had not New Orleans flooded, MS would be the center of attention.

There are now 30,000 National Guard and 10,000 active duty in MS and LA. The military is now fully mobilized. So much to do though.

God bless.

Here's my take, Archidamus.

Had the Superdome been filled with a similar number of people from one of the black middle-class suburban neighborhoods of Atlanta, the racial composition would have been same, but there would not have been the murders, rapes, muggings, etc that we have read reports of.

While many other jurisdictions, such as New York City under Giuliani, paid close attention to social theorists such as James Q. Wilson and his "broken window theory" of crime, New Orleans apparently did not. While in much of the United States, civil and law enforcement authorities understood the importance of making extra efforts to raise their conviction rates and keep hardened criminals off the street longer, with the result that such criminals have less influence on the young people in their neighborhoods, and that crime rates dropped dramatically, and that the cultural atmosphere considerably improved, New Orleans apparently did not.

The blame lies first with those scumbags who are the criminals, but secondarily, with liberal policies that failed the people of New Orleans and these unfortunate foreign visitors.

"It's the culture, stupid"

About 200 people from the Superdome are currently housed at Texas A&M's Reed Arena. Two have already been arrested for going into the woman's showers on two occasions. Sometime within a week they're going to be moving the people from Reed out to a renovated hanger about 100 yards from my office which is on some land Texas A&M owns about 8 miles from the main campus. All female employees have been warned to never be anywhere alone and to always be with a male employee if they're driving around the campus.
