Our state should then stop paying to educate the illegals and take care of our fellow countrymen from Louisianna and Mississippi.

It's amazing to see how other states are figuring out ways to help, and others aren't.

This state wants to give away so much money to people that don't deserve it, and now in an emergency they don't even try to help fellow countrymen that have lost everything.

Have you heard the mayor of San Antonio? He just basically said it is their duty to take care of these people, and they will figure out a way to do it. That's the attitude every state in the country needs to have right now. It's an emergency and we all need to chip in to help.

There is no such thing as a plan that will not be overtaken and overwhelmed by events.

You are absolutely right, of course. Side note: cf. Iraq coverage.

No I was not being sarcastic, I have observed the method and minds of liberals.

Indeed..
Rush has often stated that when he uses parody and sarcasm to describe an event, liberals will eventually do just that!

With that attitude, why are you staying in CA? Come to Texas, we'll save you a place.

BTW, I EXPECT the President of the United States to PERSONALLY telephone ME when the next TORNADO WARNING in my area is issued. If he doesn't send in the military to rescue my family I will hold him responsible. /sarcasm!

Well said! People must note what results from the creation of a "dependency class" -- and realize that the growth of that class is the goal of Socialists such as Hillary Clinton.

Remember this quote? "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good." What do you think the "common good" is but the dependency class? It's the Socialist strategy of "keepin' 'em down". That "'em" is "us"....anyone outside the ruling class of the likes of Biden, Boxer, Clinton, Kennedy, Pelosi.

Watch and see who recovers more quickly from the damages of the hurricane: those who roll up their sleeves and take an active role in recovery, or those who await perpetual handouts because it's all that they've ever known....then vote accordingly. Who do you want in charge...enablers or those who keep people disabled by making them dependent? (Hint: The aforementioned senators are among the latter.)

This should be a big social lesson to come out of the Katrina tragedy...at the proper time.

Wharves damaged

Harbor Police Chief Robert Hecker said Wednesday afternoon that there was "a lot of damage" on port property around the wharves, but life-saving and security duties are taking precedence over a close assessment of how serious the damage might be.

“There is obviously a lot of damage -- light poles and trees down -- but
hopefully none that can’t be repaired,” Hecker said.

He said two ships were in port when the storm hit and neither reported damage.

Some of his officers have been operating the department’s two boats
the past two days, helping New Orleans police in life-saving efforts,
particularly in the 9th Ward, Hecker said.

Others are guarding the port against looting, none of which has been reported so far, Hecker said. Some administrative personnel have been allowed to go check on their own homes, he said.

As far as damage to the port, he said, The port of New Orleans is closed for at least the rest of this week. “I don’t know how far into next week” it will be closed, he said. “It depends on the flood-waters.”

She did what she needed to do, legally, kept her wits about her, and doesn't mind doing any type of work needed to make a buck. She's got spirit and attitude and will succeed.

This PC seems pretty on the ball compared to the mayor. And I've seen him in the streets too. He says "axe" but that's ok if he's not an id10t

it sounds like total chaos. the officers who did stay, apparantely did so out of a sense of personal responsiblity. but the command structure had collapsed, so other officers who did not have such a sense of personal responsibility - just took care of their own interests or just took off.

I will never find the link now, but the other day I read in an article a bit about one of the policemen, who was just about ready for retirement, and was going to fill out his papers to do so.

But then when this disaster hit, he changed his mind -- he remarked "I wouldn't be much of a man if I did that now."

He was angry as hell the other day about the people in the convention center, a lot of people were -- but he wasn't barking orders at the President like the fool Nagin, and he was on the scene. I think he's one character in this tragedy that I admire. I sure hope so... It would be nice to have *one*.

And then the socialists will say that the hard workers were given more because they recovered faster and use it as a wedge to continue to pit the proletariat against the bourgeoisie.
