they are asking him why so many NOPD cadets are holed up in baton rouge, at the "academy". why aren't they deployed. the chief says : "I have no idea".
That is true of the majority of the country. In affected areas like Alabama, Miss, LA and Texas they will judge competance of leaders and this is why in LA (both Rep and DEM) are terrified.
but yes, Americans are sensible and know that man in majority cannot stop mother nature. It is arrogance to state otherwise.
"I never, ever watch Oprah----- Is she gonna give all of the refugees a new car???"
Well, she's going to have to avoid the local Cadillac lot. The guy on BOR Thursday night calling in from NO said the 1st thing that went were all the Caddies from the lot down the street, which were stolen.
Indeed..
Are you sure? Just asking, but I had thought Bush declared the state of emergency without being asked. Or maybe in all the reported phone calls, "first" doesn't apply.
Excellent piece of work overall: I especially appreciated the NYT calling the levee upgrade "an expensive boondoggle" in the past.
NOPD officers have been through "pure hell" - they need some R&R.
"the NOPD has just acknowledged that looting is taking place!"
I didn't hear him address the story (I've seen it on FR somewhere this morning) about hizzoner "pulling all the police and firemen out of the city."
Was that story a rumor, or is the NOPD openly defying their mayor?
That was a great article! Thanks for posting.
She is indeed a survivor.
I like this guy already.
400-500 NO police officers missing -- walked off to deal with own losses, or for other reasons.
This needs to make the MSM here.
Thank you for posting that link. Fantastic story. I am hopeful there will be many more like this. :)
I was so happy to find that!
it sounds like total chaos. the officers who did stay, apparantely did so out of a sense of personal responsiblity. but the command structure had collapsed, so other officers who did not have such a sense of personal responsibility - just took care of their own interests or just took off.
So much for "No, no officer left, they're all on duty, don't look behind the curtain...."
I agree ..there was a total breakdown in command and communication.
NO PD Chief just remarked that the city has been destoyed. No kidding.
NOPD chief - "this city has been destroyed".
I just posted this on another thread, but saw what you wrote here, I'd love to see someone able to do this, I just don't know how... : )

Surprising to find such a positive article in the WaPo too.
