NEW ORLEANS - Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six of them, a deputy chief said.
Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley said the shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.
He said he had no other details.

"Five men who were looting exchanged gunfire with police. The officers engaged the looters when they were fired upon," said superintendent of New Orleans police, Steven Nichols.
Asked for more details, he said only, "The incident is under police investigation."

My daughter who is a liberal on the east coast was so excited I had refugees. Then she found out who they were. Her friends were shocked they weren't poor people of color. She told them "my mother is a republican" and they all sighed at my meanspiritedness. But personal injury lawyeers need shelter too. I mean it, who is gonna step up to the plate on that.
My sister thinks I should make him sign a waiver. But if he is a guest, won't my homeowners cover his lawsuits?
I think there is a lesson here for everyone!

What a sad reflection and classic sign of the times.
In all reality, it won't hurt to check with your homeowner insurance company first thing in the morning. Be sure to get the name and title of whomever gives you an answer.
Then call FEMA and Red Cross to see if your insurance company's answer is consistent.
It's always better to be safe than sorry.

That doesn't include disasters. They are EVACUEES!!

I know this word is being misused..but when people need refuge from a storm, a flood, devastating damage..it seems to fit..I just call them victims.

This could really bring out martial law, and the mayor and governor would have a wad of questioning in front of them. If these were white contractors trying to survey damage for future repairs, it's going to get real messy. I see a mass exodus of other volunteers.

NOLA was probably majority nonwhite for most of its history. I know that, right before the civil war, the majority of the population was either enslaved or "free persons of color." Thanks to a large influx of Irish, Italian, and German immigrants, however, it became a majority white city after the Civil War, and would remain so until the 1970s. I once dated a girl from NOLA of Greek ancestry who told me that their was a sizeable Greek community on the East Side of the city until white flight hit the nabe in the late 70s/early 80s.
BTW: Your home state of Mississippi was majority black until the late 1940s. South Carolina was majority black when Pitchfork Ben Tilman was at the peak of his power at the turn of the last century.
That is correct about Mississippi. They all went to Detriot and Chicago for work between the World Wars....with a fair number of whites
NOLA was majority white from General Butler's visit until 1974....as Jefferson parish grew.
