Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."
It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."
"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.
LOL. Thanks. Sums it up nicely.
Who does this ignorant twit think is responsible for the miraculous 24 hr evac and rescue that hs been going on. What a lamebrained nitwit! She sends the president a letter (probably email) and asks for his help and says she fears the gov and mayor are going to botch the job and get a bunch of people killed and now this. It sounds like she is scared someone is going to find out she herself doubted their abilities and is scared the prez is going to tell on her.
I want a Congressional hearing where the 'Ican's don't for once pussyfoot around but get the facts out.
Cripes, do I really have to explain to this UNITED STATES SENATOR how the budget process works in this country??!!??
As soon as they remember what is in there, it will be if it hasn't already...
Darlin', are there any "public servants" down there with the authority and common sense to wipe their own noses? Surely there must be a voice or two of reason in that RAT infested political cesspool.
Oh I'm sure there are a few documents still about in other parts of the State
Spot on analysis, well done.
I think not, sl!
LA governor just posted on her web site letter requesting federal takeover, which looks like the one drafted by the Bush administration that she refused to sign, BACKDATED to Aug. 27th.Can someone investigate when this appeared and why it was backdated?
Someone else asked her to supply a link, but I haven't seen one yet.
That would be Mary Landrieu, daughter (?) of former New Orleans mayor "Moon" Landrieu, who was no more honest than the average South Louisiana politician - which is to say, not very - and who shares responsibility for the City's lack of preparedness.
"Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
Cripes, do I really have to explain to this UNITED STATES SENATOR how the budget process works in this country??!!??"
Even if there had been any significant cuts in federal spending, it is up to the state and local government to allocate the funds for neccessary infrastructure improvements in their state, is it not?
No doubt the mayor was too busy lining his own pockets and those of his cronies to care about fixing levees. "Blame Bush" on this one, does not wash.
Stephanopolous is a Clinton man, Of course he wouldn't stop anyone from bashing Bush. I never watch his useless show.
Say what you want about Hillary, but I think she would chew her own leg off before crying on TV.
I looked at the FBI and CIA, but did not see which branch has the authority to do so.
On 9/11, NY cops and firefighters ran into the burning buildings. In New Orleans, how many ran away from the wind and water?
Distribute the blame fairly and you run out of blame long before you reach Washington.
And the Dems know it. This is a political attack, over the uncounted, unburied dead, over the dying and homeless too. But ignore it and everybody suffers later.
Landrieu should be censured, promptly and sternly. Instead, the gutless Republicans in Congress will probably give her a seat on the commission investigating this debacle.
Honey, I believe your boy, Clinton, beat him to it.
"-- in 1998 the Army Corps of Engineers provided a Draft Request to pursue the protection of noted areas in the Gulf region, to enhance their ability to survive heavy hurricane damage. The project was summarily REJECTED BY BILL CLINTON as not important." Story here
