Afghanistan's government has pledged to give $100,000 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, The United States embassy said on Sunday.
President Hamid Karzai made the pledge in a letter sent to US Ambassador Ronald Neumann. 'On behalf of the US embassy, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the people of Afghanistan,' Neumann said in a statement.
'Their compassion and generosity bears testimony to the strength of the ties between our two peoples.'
Afghanistan's cash-strapped government relies heavily on financial aid from the United States and elsewhere. Most of the country is impoverished and there is little infrastructure outside of a handful of cities.
Sometimes it takes him a little time to update.
BTW, Sri Lanka was $25,000, which is a lot for that country.
*sniff* Even $10K would be a tear-jerker.
Thank you, Afghanistan!
Indeed..Thank you Afghanistan!
Thank you.
Afghanistan!?!?!? My jaw has dropped.

Moves me to tears...thank you Afghanistan
We should accept it. The $$ will probably end up going back to them as some sort of aid assistance anyway.
But that's OK.
COOL!!!
I don't expect any country to offer, especially since a lot like Afghanistan really need it at home. It's an amazing gesture and we are grateful. Thank you Afghanistan.

And still the government sends us money for the relief effort. These are a very grateful people indeed.
How about all the profits from the Poppy Fields for one day? That would be a lot more.
Wonderful news! Thank you, Afghanistan!
Kind of reminds you of the widow putting her few coins on the plate.
All she had.
Bless them.
How humbling. These are people with nothing.
Please explain to me how the war in Afghanistan was a failure.
WOW!!!!!
You stole my thunder--well put. It's all about the heart.
You got that right.
It more than puts Old Europe to shame...
