MSNBC just on the line with bloggers who are up and running from inside New Orleans. They are part of a computer/online/phone, company...I couldn't tell what, but they are on the sixth floor of their building, with a huge generator, they decided to stay to keep on serving their customers.

http://mgno.com/

this guy was amazing...he chewed out the blame gamers, he vividly described some of the things they've seen from their building. They've got security, they've got provisions, it sounds like they are there for the long haul.
Also on MSNBC, they're showing helicopter rescues still taking place, and the NBC reporter points out how dangerous it is for these military guys dropping down into the darkness to pick up victims....only to have them refuse to leave!!!!!

Yes, that seems to be the attitude of the city of New Orleans. They chose to spend local, state, and federal tax dollars on those projects instead of fixing the levees to withstand a catagory 5 hurricane or massive flooding. I just don't think it occured to anyone in charge that if the levees were to actually break, no one would be able to come in and spend money. Very sad on the part of local and state officials to let those poor and helpless remain so when they had the means at their disposal to fix the problem several times over.

I love that guy Lt General Honore, he is such a "mensch" (a real man). I feel so comfortable knowing that he will do anything within his power to get the job done even if he has to bulldoze those damned fools that get in his way. I think of that song from the 60's by Leslie Gore "I will follow him".

Geraldo griping about "lack of coordination" until the Army got there. General Honore now on the phone saying "you can't coordinate if you don't have communication."

Listening to Britt Hume now on c-Span re-run FNSunday saying that NO never had a hurricane disaster plan, potent stuff.

Facts tend to get lost in confusion. ;-)

Politicians need to be reminded that their laws don't trump the laws of physics. /grin

There are laws the prevent the President from doing many things within the state unless he is invited in or asked by the governor. If he came in without being invited the shinola would hit the fan - big time!

After all their hopeful but foolish attempts to impeach him over phony memos (Rather and the British one) and any weak crap they could Djihn up, this one would have had possibilities--legal possibilities.

I wonder if any of them thought of that early on... Nah! They wouldn't let people die just for a lever to impeach President Bush, would they?

For the record the above is just a small suspicion. I'm 98% sure Blanco and the other crybabies were miserable failures due to their stupidity, corruption, incompetence and weakness.

If I recall correctly .. NO & LA didn't set up a command center until AFTER the hurricane hit

He also offered excuses for the mayor, which I suspect the Dims are going to run with - he met w the mayor who only had 2 phones, etc., etc. I can understand that all communication was down and things were bad - but why did it take the Pres to ask them to evacuate and why didn't they ask him for help earlier - why did it take him going in (and Blanco still wouldn't turn it over to the Feds, even though they couldn't handle it manpower-wise, coordination-wise, stress-wise or leadership-wise).

Oh and I forgot something else MSNBC was talking about. Sean Penn is there, in a boat, looking for a friend of his.

why am I not surprised this idiot would just have to insert himself into this tragedy?????? This isn't about his friend.............this is all about Sean!!

I think his sympathy was more for the regular police guys.

Nothing explains the failure to use those buses for evacuation BEFORE the storm, however.

Geraldo has been in full exaggeration mode, his emoting is anything but professional. When he comes on I use the mute button now since he told us there were more than 6 times the real number of people staying in the convention center. Anything for a "big story", including outright lies.

I wonder why that guy didn't move his mother OUT Of a nursing home that was in the path of a hurricane?

I sure would have.

Where's Kerry and his band of brothers? Couldn't they commandeer a boat or two and do some purple heart-quality life saving? I don't what's safer -- Christmas in Cambodia, or Labor Day in NO. Either way, a fourth purple heart is a slam dunk for Lt. K.

Kerry's life saving ability is limited to hamsters & gerbils!

When you work for a Police Dept or Public safety Office, when you are called you go, and leave your family behind. This is what separates those that are responsible and are willing to do that job and the ones that just punch a time card. If you fail to come to work, you are terminated or suspended. Before you report for duty you take care of your personal matters (evacuating family and securing your home) and do your duty. there are hardship cases that are evaluated on an individual basis , but when you are in those type jobs your rights come after the Public safety. I am not sure if people are aware of this, but the Offices involved in every aspect of public Safety are notified long before the General Public is notified that the Hurricane will be directly affecting your area. The State EOC notifies every County that will be involved, and the race is on after that.

Haven't replayed the FOX tape yet but I did listen long enough to hear Britt Hume's voice. I worried that he had left FOX for some reason since he wasn't on Thurs and Fri. He is the reason that we have satellite so we can get FOX. I like a good many of the FOX people but if Britt goes, so do I.
