Under Broussard’s leadership as Council Chairman, the Parish has embarked on the most extensive capital improvement initiative in Jefferson’s history; including the $245 million dollar road improvement program as well as the $350 million, ongoing, Southeast Louisiana Flood Control Project (SELA).

Great post.
Bottom line here. The job or managing the hurricane's wrath belonged to the Governor and she failed miserably.

In my # 363, don't think I made an idle observation about Donna Brazile's connection to this Jefferson Parish president unloading on Bush and FEMA.

"At the conclusion of the 2002 mid-term elections, Brazile served as a media consultant and grassroots organizer for Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Brazile was born near New Orleans, Louisiana in 1959, the third of nine children born to Lionel and Jean Brazile, who worked as a janitor and a maid, respectively. She was raised in extreme poverty in Kenner, Louisiana."

Watching Fox this AM I see where Chertoff has already started to soft pedal the responsibilities of Nagin and Blanco. The "new tone in Washington" continues. I just can't understand why the Reps refuse to answer the accusations of the left. Unless the truth comes out, we can only expect more disasters like this in the future.

Here in Memphis, the mobile units roll up to the projects to inoculate the children and the people will not come out to take advantage of this service, but when the kid gets a sniffle off to the emerengcy room.

Tim Russert has completely blown his cover this morning.

I guess I'll avoid MTP today, sounds too much like gawking at a roadside accident, LOL.

How heartfelt can it be when Broussard is reading from a freaking script. He obvioulsy had pre-prepared notes, which he read as he called for his "congressional hearings." Total B.S.

Do a google search on him, he is apparently an "ass."

Look! Arkansas cannot even do something as simple as fix a roadway. They have been working on I40 for almost 40 years and it is still a mess in some places.

Someone needs to remind "Mary" that Bush has been nicer to her than either her fellow Democrats or the press.

You are kidding me...they cast ALAN ALDA as a GOP candidate?

He will no doubt do his best Snidely Whiplash impression as his interpretation of the role.

Hurricane Dennis is over 48 hours away from striking with four of the five computer models showing the storm staying away from the New Orleans area. Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard decides to call for a voluntary evacuation for Jefferson and requests the state to implement "contraflow".

Asked why he deviated from the plan developed by the state in conjunction with Jefferson Parish and the other metro New Orleans parishes, Broussard stated he was worried that he would have to call for an evacuation "in the middle of the night."

snip

Regardless of whether or not a government body calls for an evacuation, it is important to remember that it is only a voluntary evacuation. As Broussard stated repeatedly, he and other government officials will never call for a mandatory evacuation. Therefore, it is each persons and each families decision to make when they will evacuate. Waiting on the government to tell you is abdicating all responsibility for your own personal safety.

Striking differences how the two states of La and Texas have dealt with the hurricane crisis. Texas was ready in a heartbeat. The Gov of La. is still crying her eyes out.

if there is a natural disaster there are enough self sufficient people in the area to cope in the initial phase until outside help arrives.

Well, I know that I am armed to the teeth. So sad for you Brits that you are not.
